The Sukhamoy Chakravarty committee was formed in 1985 under the chairmanship of Professor Sukhamoy Chakravarty to review India's monetary system and improve monetary regulation in order to enable price stability. The committee found issues with the monetary system during 1970-1980, including increased credit from the RBI to the government and increased statutory liquidity ratio for banks. The committee submitted its report in April 1985 with recommendations, including interest rates on government securities and bank deposit rates.
