2. CGSI
CGSI was formed to fight consumer exploitation of all
forms.
India’s 1st NGO in the consumer sector founded in 1966.
CGSI was the first to demand A Consumer Protection Act.
CGSI participates government decision making bodies.
CGSI pressed for consumer protection act and consumer
court in 1975.
3. CGSI
The consumer have often been given substandard products
& services :
degrade foods,
Short weights and measures,
spurious drugs,
unreasonable Prices and many other terrible crimes.
4. Main Objectives of CGSI
To Educate consumer about their rights.
To recommend to the government for suitable action
against unfair trade practices.
To undertake consumer research to determine the needs of
the consumers.
To apprise manufacturers of the need for improving the
quality of Product.
Popularize the use of goods according to recognized
standards such as AGMARK and ISI mark
Co-operate with various organisation across the world to
formation of quality standards for consumer product.

6. How to complain
• Be sure complaint is sound
• Present politely
• First approach to the retailer. he may have valid
explanation.
• If he is unresponsive write to manufacture quoting number
and the date of warranty card
• Retain all original keep copies of your letters.
• If CGSI product perform pearly write to the respective
agencies.
• If there is no response write to CGSI.
8. CONSUMER EDUCATION AND
RESEARCH COUNCIL (CERC)
Was set up in 1978 as public charitable trust.
CERC is non-profit, non-governmental voluntary
organisation.
Registered under Bombay public Trust in 1948.
CERC is India’s only organisation with an independent in-
house comparative product testing laboratory.
9. Product Testing Reports
Product testing conducted in four categories :
1. Food 3.Personal care products
2. Pharmaceuticals 4. Electrical Appliances.
Test reports identify the brands & manufactures of product tested.
They decide which brand conformed to the test parameters under Indian
standards & which have not.
