Introduction The era of video games has been in existence since the late 1950s. (1) Is an electronic game involving interaction with the user interface, creating visual feedback.

History of Video Games First video game (1958) created was a “Ping Pong” Tennis on an oscilloscope screen.  (1) At Brookhaven National Laboratory  (BNL)   (1) By William Higinbotham  (1) To show what could be possible.   ( 2)

History of Video Games Wolfenstein 3D was created as a very popular first-person shooting game. Goal of the game is to kill all the Nazi soldiers and get to Hitler and kill him as well 1992:

History of Video Games Rating (3) E- content suitable for all ages  (Legend of Zelda, Mario) T-  content not suitable for children under 13 (The Sims, Guitar Hero) M- content suitable for mature people over the age of 17 (Halo, Dead Space) AO-content not suitable for individuals under the age of 18 (Grand Theft Auto)
History of Video Games Rating (4) Video Game Rating Council  formed in 1993 Depending on the level of violence and sexual content Criticisms include- lowered ratings on violent content Grand Theft Auto originally M rating
Benefits of Video Games (5) Better visual-motor skills such as resistance to distraction and greater peripheral vision Some games require great amount of analytical ability and attention span Some games improve the players ability to problem solve as well as improving memory
Controversy in Video Games History (6) Some video games have been criticized for causing addictions and violent behavior Grand Theft Auto accused of causing race based hate crimes, as well as cases of sexual assault
Controversy in Video Game (7) Columbine High School Massacre, April 20 th  1999 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students and 1 teacher and injured 21 other students Fans of the game DOOM
Conclusion Video games have come a long way since they were first created They are now faster with better graphics, sounds, control, storyline and have become a customary activity amongst kids, teens and adults
