2. The Basics
 Simple Sentence- A sentence consisting of only
one clause. It contains a single subject and
predicate. It describes only one thing, idea, or
question; it has only one verb.
 Independent Clause- Expresses a complete
thought. It contains a subject and a verb.
 Subject- What/who the sentence is about.
 Verb- A word that describes an action.
