• Century Paper & Board Mills Limited (CPBM), established in
1984, is Flagship Company of the Lakson Group of
Companies – Pakistan.
• The Company started commercial production in 1990 and
established its name as major producer of quality Packaging
boards in the country.
• It has attained a position of Market Leader in Packaging
Boards in particular and is considered as most Preferred
Supplier to Printing and Packaging Industry.
• The Company is also in export business and its Packaging
Boards are successfully competing in the international market.

the paper, board and packaging industry, positively influencing
and providing value to our stakeholders, society and our nation.
Mission Statement:
To strive incessantly for excellence and sustain our
position as a preferred supplier of quality paper, board and
packaging material within a team environment and with a
customer focused strategy.

Century’s quality objectives are designed for enhancing
customer satisfaction and operational efficiencies and
committed to building Safe, Healthy and Environment
friendly atmosphere.

Identifications of Several levels of management
Century paper and board mills limited has three
levels of management.
Top management
Middle management
Lower management
Top Management
• Top management usually sets up goals and targets of
the organization top management includes CFO and
CEO.
• They insure that the goals and targets are equally
divided in such a way that every department has the
right resources to achieve them.
Middle Management
• Middle management is involved to take care
of all the activities of head office and factory.
• They are responsible for the actions taken by
lower management and they have to report to
top management.
Lower Management
• Lower management is under the influence of
middle management.
• They have to follow orders of middle
management and have to look out all the
activities of factory and are responsible to
report to middle management on daily bases.
Analyzing decision making steps
Level of management involved in planning:
Firstly planning is done by middle management and they
report to top management about their planning's then the top
management consults with each other and approves or rejects
those planning's. When plans are approved then goals are set and
targets are assigned to individuals.
Analysis of contemporary issues faced by managers:
Century paper and board mills limited faces many kinds
of issues such legal issues , custom issues dealers issues etc. they
resolve their issues by mutual cooperation of all managers and
legal advisors and by the help of their market goodwill.
Organizational Structure & Departmentalization
Century paper and board mills limited follows the following
organizational structure
 Individuals are answerable to lower management
 Lower management is answerable to middle management
 And middle management is answerable to higher management.
Departmentalization in Company
Century paper and board mills limited believes in
departmentalization and there are many departments
working in the organizations such as:
• Purchase department
• Sales department
• Imports department
• Exports departments
Vertical differentiation
Work specialization:
In todays world specialization plays very important role in
achieving goals. All the workers are trained to perform their
activities professionally this helps to complete targets on time.
Chain of command:
Chain of command is followed strictly in the organization
decision are taken by top management and are passed to middle
management and middle management is responsible to
implement those decision by the help of lower management.
Vertical Differentiation (Cont’d )
Formalization:
Century paper is a formalized organization. All the rules
and regulations are clearly known by the employees and they
strictly follow those rules.
Span of control:
All the control is in the hands of CEO and the employees
are restrict to follow the orders of CEO.
Horizontal Differentiation
Divisional departmentalization:
Century paper and board mills works divisional
departmentalization. They have divided all the tasks among
departments to insure quality of products.
Matrix Structure:
Century paper and board mills has following matrix
structure
 Chief executive officer / Chief financial officer
 General managers
 Managers
 Executives
 Supervisors
Horizontal Differentiation (Cont’d)
Integration:
Century paper and board mills limited has many
departments such purchase sale administrative etc. all the
departments work efficiently on their said task and integrate with
each other and try to help each other in performing tasks.
Coordination by Standardization:
Century paper and board mills limited have their own
standard of doing work and all the managers, individuals
coordinate with each other to finish the task.
Horizontal Differentiation (Cont’d)
Coordination By Plan:
Planning is the most important part of any organization and as
discussed above planning is done by the middle management and then
reports to top management and then top management decides whether
to approve or reject those plans.
Coordination's By Mutual Adjustments:
Like if any issues arises in factory the manager in factory
reports to the people in office and they try to resolve that issue as soon
as possible.
Monitoring Mechanism of Employees:
All the employees are being monitor by the other employees and
evaluate each others performance at the end of month. On the basis of these
evaluations employees are promoted or demoted.
Conclusion and recommendations
• Century Paper & Board Mills is presently a strong universal leader
in the Paper industry.
• Century Paper and Board Mills Limited should focus on to the
expansion of their growth and gain benefit of possible opportunities
by ongoing to recover on extents at the business level.
• They should recover their employee relationships in order to
generate employees all over the world. Packages Limited has
executed an Environmental safety program, which delivers an
appreciated necessity and at similar period presenting their brand
name.
• If Century Paper and Board Mills Limited followed this similar
philosophy with Paper goods and environmental safety then it too
would suggestively raise their brand appreciation.

About Company • Century Paper & Board Mills Limited (CPBM), established in 1984, is Flagship Company of the Lakson Group of Companies – Pakistan. • The Company started commercial production in 1990 and established its name as major producer of quality Packaging boards in the country. • It has attained a position of Market Leader in Packaging Boards in particular and is considered as most Preferred Supplier to Printing and Packaging Industry. • The Company is also in export business and its Packaging Boards are successfully competing in the international market.

  • 8. Identifications of Several levels of management Century paper and board mills limited has three levels of management. Top management Middle management Lower management
  • 9. Top Management • Top management usually sets up goals and targets of the organization top management includes CFO and CEO. • They insure that the goals and targets are equally divided in such a way that every department has the right resources to achieve them.
  • 10. Middle Management • Middle management is involved to take care of all the activities of head office and factory. • They are responsible for the actions taken by lower management and they have to report to top management.
  • 11. Lower Management • Lower management is under the influence of middle management. • They have to follow orders of middle management and have to look out all the activities of factory and are responsible to report to middle management on daily bases.

Analyzing decision making steps Level of management involved in planning: Firstly planning is done by middle management and they report to top management about their planning's then the top management consults with each other and approves or rejects those planning's. When plans are approved then goals are set and targets are assigned to individuals. Analysis of contemporary issues faced by managers: Century paper and board mills limited faces many kinds of issues such legal issues , custom issues dealers issues etc. they resolve their issues by mutual cooperation of all managers and legal advisors and by the help of their market goodwill.

They have divided all the tasks among departments to insure quality of products. Matrix Structure: Century paper and board mills has following matrix structure  Chief executive officer / Chief financial officer  General managers  Managers  Executives  Supervisors

Horizontal Differentiation (Cont’d) Integration: Century paper and board mills limited has many departments such purchase sale administrative etc. all the departments work efficiently on their said task and integrate with each other and try to help each other in performing tasks. Coordination by Standardization: Century paper and board mills limited have their own standard of doing work and all the managers, individuals coordinate with each other to finish the task.

Coordination's By Mutual Adjustments: Like if any issues arises in factory the manager in factory reports to the people in office and they try to resolve that issue as soon as possible. Monitoring Mechanism of Employees: All the employees are being monitor by the other employees and evaluate each others performance at the end of month. On the basis of these evaluations employees are promoted or demoted.

Conclusion and recommendations • Century Paper & Board Mills is presently a strong universal leader in the Paper industry. • Century Paper and Board Mills Limited should focus on to the expansion of their growth and gain benefit of possible opportunities by ongoing to recover on extents at the business level. • They should recover their employee relationships in order to generate employees all over the world. Packages Limited has executed an Environmental safety program, which delivers an appreciated necessity and at similar period presenting their brand name. • If Century Paper and Board Mills Limited followed this similar philosophy with Paper goods and environmental safety then it too would suggestively raise their brand appreciation.
