Censorship takes many forms such as blocking, withholding, destroying, altering, or self-censoring information from being read, heard or seen. Examples include a newspaper censoring a photo of a war victim due to nudity, a country banning a book for being too pornographic, suspicions that a political figure altered records of confidential information, and journalists self-censoring due to draconian defamation laws. The purpose of censorship is to control the flow of information and knowledge, but it ultimately undermines credibility and prevents people from making fully informed judgments.
