2. • Cell Division:- The process of
reproduction or formation of new cells
from the pre-existing cells is called cell
division.
• The cell which undergoes division is
known as mother cell and the new cells
which are formed by the process of cell
division are termed as daughter cells.

3. CELL CYCLE
It consists of two phases:-
1) Interphase:- G1, S and G2 sub-stages
2)Mitotic phase:- Prophase, Metaphase,
Anaphase, Telophase.
G1:- It is a pre-DNA replication phase.
This is a phase b/w telophase and S-phase.
It is the longest phage.
Protein and RNA synthesis takes place.

4. S:- This phase comes after G1 phase.
 DNA replication takes place during this phase.
 This is a phase b/w G1 and G2.
G2:- This is post-DNA replication phase.
Protein and RNA synthesis takes place during
this phase.
This is a phase b/w S-phase and prophase.

8. IMPORTANCE OF MITOSIS
Essential for normal growth and development of
living organisms.
Formation of new parts viz., roots, leaves, stem and
branches. Also helps in repairing of damaged parts.
It is useful in maintaining the purity of types.
In animals, mitosis helps in continuous replacement
of old tissues with new ones such as gut epithelium
and blood cells.
After fusion of male & female gamete, zygote is
formed. Mitosis is responsible for development of a
zygote in to an adult organism.
