Direction: Listen to the audio and complete the statements.
A nuclear power plant is a type of ______________ that
generates ___________ using heat from nuclear reactions.
These reactions take place within a reactor. The plant also has
machines which remove heat from the reactor to operate a
__________________ and generator to make electricity.
____________ made by nuclear power plants is called nuclear
power.
power station
electricity
steam turbine
Electricity
Nuclear power plants are usually near water to
remove the heat the reactor makes. Some nuclear
power plants use ________________ to do this.
Nuclear power plants use uranium as _______. When
the reactor is on, Uranium atoms inside the reactor
split into two ____________ atoms. When uranium
atoms split, they give off a large amount of heat. This
splitting of atoms is called ___________.
cooling towers
fuel
smaller
fission
_______1) A nuclear power plant generates electricity using the
wind.
_______2) The machines’ work is to remove heat from the reactor.
_______3) Nuclear power is electricity which is made by nuclear
power plant.
_______4) Uranium atoms in the reactor will form into bigger atoms,
when the reactor is on.
_______5) Uranium atom split produce a large amount of energy.

Principle of Reading
Assoc.Prof.Dr.Udon Wan-a-rom , p.76-77
1. Read the title.
2. Read the introduction and/or
summary
3. Notice graphics - charts, maps,
diagrams, etc.
4. Notice reading aids.
Direction: Read paragraphs. Underline
topic sentence and find main idea of each
paragraph.
What is this paragraph mainly talk about?

Group 1: Should we build more nuclear
power plant?
Group 2: Is nuclear power plant eco-
friendly?
Group 3: Nuclear power plant is better than
other energy sources.
Group 4: It is good to build nuclear power
plant in Thailand.
Expression an opinion:
If you ask me, …
(Personally), I think…
If you want my opinion, …
Conceding an argument:
Perhaps you’re right.
Ok, you win.
You’ve convinced me.
Strong agreement:
Absolutely.
I couldn’t agree more.
I totally agree.
I agree.
Hedging:
I take your point, but …
Yes, but …
Qualified agreement:
That’s partly true.
On the whole, yes.
I’d go along with that.
Strong disagreement:
I don’t agree.
On the contrary …
I totally disagree.
2
Direction:
- Draw a simple diagram of your
power plant which uses fuel or natural
energy source in your local.
- Write a paragraph to describe
your power plant using the example
below. Use at least 5 adjective
clauses to give details.
In my home town, there are so many hays that
nobody wants. But we can make use of these hays
by building a power plant which uses hays as fuels.
While hays are burning, it will give heat energy which
will boil the water. Hot water will turns in to steam
that operate the turbine which is connected to the
generator. And the generator will produce electricity to
our village. Now we will have cheap energy from hays
in our village.
