The two main laws governing investment funds in the Cayman Islands are the Mutual Funds Law and the Private Funds Law. The Mutual Funds Law regulates open-ended funds and requires registration with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) for most funds. It also mandates annual audits of fund accounts. The Private Funds Law regulates closed-ended funds and also requires registration with CIMA as well as annual audits, proper asset valuation procedures, safekeeping of fund assets, cash monitoring, and anti-money laundering compliance. Both laws are enforced by CIMA.
