Teaching Arts and crafts has comprised of: Textiles theatre effects and props, ceramics, drawing and
graphic design using computers, art, profile drawing, modeling and animation.
In addition to teaching and participating in the compulsory development work of the pedagogic staff,
Catherine Braathen has participated actively in other areas. She has participating in an animation course
to being responsible for arranging a professional gallery exhibition for pupils in grades 7 to 10. She
ensured the participation of the school pupils in the calendar competition for the Norwegian nation-
wide cultural education events Den kulturelle skolesekken. The contribution of one of our pupils was
used to illustrate the month of February. She also initiated, drafted and provided documentation for the
school’s application to the Norwegian ITUs creativity award.
As a teacher Catherine Braathen is involved, creative and professional. She holds a high standard both
for herself and for her pupils, and she is very dedicated to her field of expertise. We are very satisfied
with her work at Longyearbyen skole and recommend her warmly.
