Learning Objective: Participants will be informed of the status of current research partnerships with majority universities, and the benefits of partnerships with majority institutions to compete for research funding In an increasing flat federal research funding environment, strategic partnerships are imperative for any higher education institution. Partnerships foster opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations, faculty and student research expression, and most importantly combine capacities leading to larger and long-term grants and cooperative agreements. The focus of this seminar is to hear how these partnerships are progressing and could set the stage for wider conversations about benefits and opportunities for future collaborations between our Nation’s HBCUs and Majority Institutions. At the end of this seminar, participants will be able to: a. Understand the value of collaborating with Majority Institutions in developing joint research proposals for sponsored funding. b. Throughout the world, researchers share a common understanding of what academia entails, as well as a passion for what they are doing. Our precursor study suggests that young scholars enjoy their work. It is in particular the excitement associated with research and discovery that motivates them to pursue an academic career path. They also value the flexible nature of the work, allowing them to dedicate their time in a self-organised and autonomous fashion. Knowledge in science and academia is universal, inviting researchers from all over the world to participate in and contribute to its creation and use. Here I am uploading my last "Public Diplomacy Course 2017" presentation. There are definitely other presentations and articles to come in near future! One field within "smart international relations" portfolio that I find extremely interesting, but only modestly analyzed are think-tanks. I have a pleasure of working with experts, researchers and think-tanks from the very beginning of my career and I love it. There is so much knowledge, wisdom, brainstorming and expertise in the circle of experts that organising or taking part of in any seminar or conference gives just pure intellectual pleasure. What is more important, however, is the fact that think-tank gatherings provide very much of a background and rationale for decision-making processes. This is a huge and fascinating field to think of and analyze. I hope this presentation to reach many experts and raise many questions on the side of the readers. Think-tanks surely deserve these questions to be asked - and answered.
