This release note describes version 1.1 of the Catchment Data Explorer. Key additions include a more detailed water body page, improved data download functionality, and expanded search results for classifications and objectives on the operational catchment page. Some known issues are reported bugs using Internet Explorer 8, missing catchment summaries, an unhelpful glossary page, and empty search results for non-classified elements on the water body page.

Editor's Notes
- The slide pack supports the release of the Catchment Data Explorer application, planned for week commencing 17/11/2014. The website is here: http://environment.data.gov.uk/catchment-planning/
- Project timeline An external supplier is developing the application for us, using an iterative approach. This allows us to move more quickly and to remain flexible with the finished product. Iteration 1 – complete The data model has been produced, and populated with data from the catchment planning system. Very rough data querying interface set up. Iteration 2 – complete. Working user interface allowing users to run simple searches and view catchments and water bodies on a map. Feedback from this phase was used to plan the following releases. Build 1.0 – September 2014 (not released publically) Build 1.1 – October/November – released in Beta October 10th 2014, full release week commencing 17th November. Significant addition to build 1.0, with a detailed water body information page and improvements to the mapping interface, data downloads and page styling. Build 1.2 TBC We will continue to update the site iteratively, using feedback from you users to guide us. Data updates - we will be able to update the data periodically, although the data made available in the September release will match that used in the draft plans.
- Key functions: See following slides for screenshots http://environment.data.gov.uk/catchment-planning/ Find catchments by searching or clicking on a map - Search by postcode, place name, gird reference, catchment (RBD, management catchment, operational catchment, water body) View catchment summaries at RBD, management and operational catchment level. These are simplified versions of the main catchment summary documents. Follow links to our consultation pages, and to other useful sites, such as the catchment based approach, DataShare and UKTAG Search for water bodies by classifications and objectives View classification, objectives and reasons for not achieving good data Download datasets for classifications and objectives. Detailed water body page lists classifications down to element level & other key water body information.
- Catchment data explorer home page Home page Search by place name, postcode, coordinates or catchment/water body name Click a river basin district on the map or the list to the side to navigate to the management catchments within it. NOTE: the screen shot is from our beta site and may change. There will be no link Western Wales RBD in future.
- Search results The results shown after running a postcode search – you can see the river basin districts, management catchments, operational catchments and water bodies related to the postcode. The user can click through to any result. NOTE: the screen shot is from our beta site and may change.
- River Basin District page – updated - format now matches other catchment pages Map is showing the management catchments within the river basin district. The map and tables below can be clicked to navigate to management catchment or operational catchment. NOTE: the screen shot is from our beta site and may change.
- Management catchment page Map is showing the operational catchments within the management catchment. Clicking the summary button open the summary page. NOTE: the screen shot is from our development site and may change.
- Operational catchment page with summary Map is showing the water bodies (in this case only river water body catchments) within an operational catchment. The map and tables can be clicked to navigate to water bodies. The red box highlights additional searches by classification, objectives and actions, that can be run for water bodies within the operational catchment. Clicking the summary button takes the user to a catchment summary. NOTE: This release will not contain any actions data. NOTE: the screen shot is from our development site and may change.
- Operational catchment classification search results page – improved map, better data download Map/table showing the water bodies within the operational catchment and their status for phosphate. These search results data can also be downloaded. Clicking an underlined classification status in the table open the reasons for not achieving good status page (next slide). - Known issues in this build Some users reporting problems using Internet Explorer 8 – we are working to resolve this. In the mean time, we recommend the use of Chrome, Firefox or an up to date version of Internet Explorer Missing Catchment summaries – we are working to add missing summaries, and improve some of the existing ones. Glossary page not very helpful – we will look to improve this in 1.2 if users want it. Searching on classification and objectives pages still fiddly Detailed water body page returns empty results for elements that aren’t classified.
