The beaver is known for its remarkable building abilities and ability to significantly influence its environment through dam building. It is monogamous and lives in family units along rivers and streams. Beavers have a complex communication system including sounds, smells, gestures and postures. They are also able to store and transport food as well as build large dams out of local materials, making them one of the few animals able to engineer their environment.
