Alfred Bagnall & Sons Ltd undertook an external refurbishment, re-decoration, and re-branding of The Market Inn in Brighton as part of Star Pubs & Bars' national 'Signs 2 Grow' program. The project required careful planning due to the pub's location in a busy pedestrian area of Brighton. Works were carried out safely from erected scaffolding to minimize disruption. Bagnall followed the specifications provided, which included painting rendered areas, timber, and metalwork. Upon completion, new signage, lighting and awnings were installed before removing the scaffolding.

The Market Inn located in the Brighton’s South Lanes is one of 52
Public Houses that Alfred Bagnall & Sons Ltd. have undertaken
redecorations on as part of Star Pubs & Bars’ national ‘Signs 2 Grow’
external decoration programme.
Because this was a national scheme with assets located across the
country Bagnalls’ Special Projects department, who specialise in co-
ordinating UK wide schemes, instructed regional Bagnalls branches
with locally employed contract managers and operatives to undertake
the projects.
The location of the pub in a busy
pedestrianised part of central Brighton required careful planning and the
arrangement of scaffolding licenses with the council. The works were
carried out from fixed scaffolding, which was erected efficiently minimising
any impact on pub trading, surrounding businesses and public access.
The safety of all passers-by and patrons was paramount throughout and
Bagnalls managed this with clear signage. Our operatives wore high-vis
jackets and carried ID cards. That and the fact that the scaffolding was
alarmed meant that even in evenings no unauthorised persons could
access the scaffolding.
Bagnalls were provided computer generated concepts for the external theme and colour scheme, from
these Bagnalls worked to the Dulux specification provided.
The decorative specification on Market Inn consisted of Dulux Weathershield Masonry Smooth to
rendered areas, a Dulux Weathershield
Quick Dry Undercoat Quick Dry
Exterior Gloss spec to timber and a
Dulux Metalshield Zinc Phosphate
Primer and Dulux Metalshield Gloss for
metalwork.
When the project neared completion
Bagnalls coordinated with Insignia
signs to install, lighting, awnings and
signage before the scaffolding was
taken down.
