1. Welcome to a lesson on “Teaching of the sense organs” based on the theory of Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences
2. Mrs Katrina introduces the lesson on sense organs. She starts by outlining the objectives which are as follows:Students should be able to: 1) identify and name the different sense organs, 2) describe the functions of the sense organs, 3) complete activities related to sense organs.
3. Intelligences considered: Musical/LinguisticPrior Knowledge: Mrs Katrina helps pupils recall about the names of different body parts. She asks pupils to identify/show each part. She moves on by playing the “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” song. Students are encouraged to mimic the song.  
4. Intelligences considered: Naturalistic/Bodily Kinesthetic/Spatial/Logical MathematicalMrs Katrina brings students in the school garden. She tells pupils that the first sense organ which will be discussed is the eye. She asks students how many eyes we have. She then tells pupils to observe and say what they can see around them.
5. Intelligences considered: Interpersonal/ LinguisticNow, Mrs Katrina brings students in the children’s playground. She divides the class into small groups. Students are asked to listen to the different sounds they can hear around them. After listening to pupils’ answers, the teacher asked pupils to guess the sense organ used during this activity. (The ears)
6. Intelligence considered: Naturalistic/Interpersonal/LinguisticAfter that, Mrs Katrina informs kids that the lesson will continue in the classroom. On their way, some girls picked a beautiful rose and gifted it to her. The girls were amazed by the pleasant smell of the flower. They ask their teacher to smell the flower.Mrs Katrina smelled the flower, and said that the flower had indeed a nice smell. On seeing that, Rahul, one of the boys, said that we smell with our nose. Without losing time, Steven asked Mrs Katrina whether the nose is a sense organ. Mrs Katrina confirmed that the nose is indeed a sense organ.
7. Intelligences considered: Intrapersonal/Interpersonal/Bodily Kinesthetic/LinguisticStudents are back in the classroom. Mrs Katrina allowed them to have some juice and snacks before proceeding. Alisha noticed that Velina was eating the same chocolate as Steven.Sania recalled what Mrs Katrina said the day before. She quickly informed her friends that Alisha was using another sense organ to taste the chocolate – her tongue.Everyone started to tell Mrs Katrina about this. Mrs Katrina was impressed by pupils’ interest and commitment to this lesson.
8. Intelligences considered: Intrapersonal/Interpersonal/Bodily-kinestheticFor the next activity, Mrs Katrina divided the class in pairs. Each pair had to touch and feel different objects in the classroom (whiteboard, cupboard, book cover and wall). Pupils had to tell how each object was (soft, hard, smooth, rough...). Based on students’ observations, Mrs Katrina explained that they have just used another sense organ during the activity – the skin.
9. Intelligence considered: LinguisticFinally, Mrs Katrina recapitulates on the five sense organs and their functions. Students were encouraged to read the sentences displayed on the board.  
10. Intelligences considered: Linguistic/ Bodily kinestheticPupils are given several evaluation activities like fill in the blanks questions. After that, pupils were asked to complete the activity on the board.
11. Intelligences considered: Intrapersonal/ LinguisticFollow up: Mrs Katrina took pupils to the computer lab to perform another evaluation exercise. Pupils had to design and label a poster showing the five sense organs. Pupils were very excited. They were allowed to print their work too.
