The Battle of Canal du Nord took place from September 27th to October 1st, 1918 along the Western Front in France. The Canadian Corps, led by Lieutenant-General Sir Arthur Currie, launched a surprise attack against German troops along the Canal du Nord. Through preparation and a night attack, the Canadians were able to capture the canal by mid-morning on September 27th, overrunning the German defenders. This victory opened up the road to Cambrai for the Allied forces.
