I remember seeing all the dead bodies littering the beach. Some were killed on the first landing. They were fodder for the Germans gun. Others were washed in by the tide where their boats had been caught. - Sr. Bernard Morgan

D-Day Invasion: Allies Storm Normandy Beaches

Editor's Notes

  1. Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno Sword= beaches of Normandy Invasion
  2. Although the allies, probably would have eventually prevailed, the world could have been a very different place. Russian forces were not able to continue through Europe during WW2 because they were met by American soldiers coming from the west. Had the war ended via an atomic bomb on Germany, there would have been no Allied force from the west to stop the Russians.
  3. The Germans, victors in the war, may have even considered an invasion of the U.S. Although this idea seems unlikely, it becomes clear now how different the world could be today had D-Day failed.
  4. Antiaircraft machinery is loaded onto the boats. American troops loading their equipment. It is incredible to know that these unassuming, laid-back troops, would soon be shot at from intense German machine gun fire.
  5. Antiaircraft machinery is loaded onto the boats. American troops loading their equipment. It is incredible to know that these unassuming, laid-back troops, would soon be shot at from intense German machine gun fire.

  7. It Took less than a year after D-Day for the war in the European theatre to end. Once the Western front was opened via D-Day, the Allies rolled through Hitler’s Fortress Europa. No D-Day = no end to European war so quickly.
