I created this fleet guide using Power Point to emphasize the use of service based sales feature & benefit vehicle presentations. The 2012 corporate fleet guide maintained zero vehicles in the Canadian fleet, and the resources available would not create a Canadian guide at the time. There were a few learning points from doing this project:
1) The guide needed to be organized by descending car classes
2) Icons for satellite radio, engine cylinders, fuel economy would save space & improve readability
3) A legal sized paper format would still make printing cost effective and maximize space
The document defines key car parts including the body, chassis, drive shaft, axle, and transmission. The body is the outer covering of the car. The chassis is the frame that supports the body and working parts. The drive shaft transmits power or motion via a revolving rod. The axle is the bar around which the wheels turn. The transmission carries power from the engine to the wheels.
Automatic Braking System (ABS) uses sensors to detect wheel lockup during braking and selectively applies and releases brake pressure to prevent skidding and maintain steering control. It has several components including wheel speed sensors, an electronic control unit, hydraulic control unit, and brake master cylinder. ABS provides advantages like maintaining vehicle control during braking and is safer and more effective than regular braking, but it also has higher costs.
The transmission system transmits power from an automobile's engine to the rear driving wheels. It includes components like the clutch, gearbox, propeller shaft, differential, and rear axle. The clutch connects and disconnects the engine from the rest of the drivetrain. The gearbox uses different gear ratios to change the speed and torque delivered to the propeller shaft. The propeller shaft then transmits power to the differential, which uses planet gears to allow the rear wheels to rotate at different speeds while driving. The transmission system allows the vehicle to be driven at varying speeds and torque levels.
This technical seminar presentation summarizes the key components and functions of an automobile differential system. It discusses:
1) The main parts of a differential system including the pinion gear, ring gear, spider gears, differential case assembly, and rear drive axles.
2) How differentials work by allowing the outer wheels to travel farther than the inner wheels when turning, while maintaining equal torque to both wheels.
3) The drawback of a standard open differential which can send all torque to a single slipping wheel, and how limited-slip differentials address this issue.
Description of various types of clutches and gear boxes has been given in the following sections of this unit. The term ‘Transmission’ is used for a device which is located between clutch and propeller shaft. It may be a gear box, an over drive or a torque converter, etc.

Finally, it addresses the importance of visibility and methods to improve frontal, downward, and rearward visibility for drivers through strategic window placement and sizing.
The document discusses hydraulic brakes. It begins with an introduction explaining that hydraulic brakes use brake fluid to transfer pressure from the controlling unit like the brake pedal to the actual brake mechanism near the wheels. It then covers the classification, principles, construction, operation, and advantages/disadvantages of hydraulic brake systems. The construction section describes components like the master cylinder, wheel cylinder, brake shoes, brake drum, brake fluid, and brake lines/hoses.
An automobile differential couples the drive shaft to the rear driving wheels. It allows the outer wheel to rotate faster than the inner wheel during a turn by splitting torque equally between the wheels. A differential consists of one input and two outputs for the two driving wheels. It allows the wheels to rotate at different speeds to accommodate turns while keeping the average rotational input equal to the drive shaft. Differentials are commonly used in automobiles but also have non-automotive applications like performing analog arithmetic or controlling gun aim. There are different types of differentials like epicyclic, spur gear, and bevel gear differentials.
An axle is a central shaft that supports rotating wheels. On vehicles, the axle can be fixed to the wheels and rotate with them, or fixed to the vehicle with the wheels rotating around it. Bearings are provided where the axle is mounted. The document discusses different types of rear axles like full floating, semi floating, and three quarter floating axles. It also discusses front axles, describing them as either dead or live axles. Finally, it lists four types of stub axles used to connect front wheels to front axles: Elliot, reversed Elliot, Lamoine, and reversed Lamoine.
The document discusses various braking systems used in vehicles. It describes the basic components and working of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical drum, disc, and anti-lock braking systems (ABS). The key points are:
1. Hydraulic braking systems use brake fluid to transfer pressure from the master cylinder to the wheel cylinders. Pneumatic systems use compressed air stored in a reservoir to operate the brakes.
2. Mechanical drum brakes use expanding brake shoes that press against the drum to slow the vehicle. Disc brakes use pads that squeeze a rotor attached to the wheel hub.
3. ABS uses sensors to monitor wheel speed and valves to rapidly adjust brake pressure to each wheel,
Hydraulic braking systems use pressurized brake fluid to transmit force through the hydraulic circuit and generate braking force. The fluid pressure is created by the brake pedal acting on the master cylinder and distributed through the lines to the wheel cylinders or calipers, where pistons increase the force and create braking force to slow the vehicle. Drum brakes use expanding brake shoes to create friction on the inner surface of the drum, while disc brakes use calipers and brake pads to squeeze the rotor. Hydraulic systems provide balanced braking force to all wheels through proportioning valves.
