The explorer Jacques Cartier and the First Nations word "kanata" meaning village were origins of the name Canada. In 1791, the Province of Quebec was divided into Upper and Lower Canada, officially adopting "Canada" as the name. English and French are Canada's official languages, with French spoken primarily in Quebec and "eh" representing the unofficial language of Canadienese. Canada embraces multiculturalism and is known for welcoming all races and cultures.
