2. Can I Be Angry, and Not Sin?
Ephesians 4:26: “‘Be angry, and do not sin’: do
not let the sun go down on your wrath.”
Righteous anger: Responding in controlled anger
to sin, false doctrine, perversion of scriptures, etc.
(Psalm 4:4; John 2:13-16; Matt. 21:12-13).
Angry: To provoke, to arouse to anger.
While being angered is what somebody does to us,
the sin is an action that you take.
We should not be easily aroused (James 1:19;
Proverbs 14:17, 29, 15:18, 16:32).
3. Can I Be Angry, and Not Sin?
Ephesians 4:20-29: Putting off the old
man and putting on the new man.
Sins not justified:
Explosive fits of rage (Eph. 4:31); venting (Prov.
29:11); holding grudges (Eph. 4:26); vengeance
(Rom. 12:17-21; Matt. 7:12); separation and
isolation (Matt. 18:15, 5:24); bitterness (Eph.
4:31); slander and gossip (II Tim. 3:3); malice
(Eph. 4:31); corrupt speech (Eph. 4:29); and
forsaking responsibilities (James 4:17).
4. Can I Be Angry, and Not Sin?
How are we to act when angry?
To love (I Cor. 13:5).
Pray (Eph. 4:27; Matt. 6:13; Luke 23:34;
Acts 7:60).
Remove planks from our own eyes first (Matt.
7:3-5).
Grieve over the wrong (Mark 3:5).
Do good (Rom. 12:14, 17-21).
Speak gently (Prov. 15:1; Gal. 6:1; Eph. 4:29).
5. Can I Be Angry, and Not Sin?
How are we to act when angry?
Rebuke the one who sinned (Matt. 18:15-17;
Luke 17:3; Gal. 6:1; II Thess. 3:14-15).
Strive for reconciliation (Matt. 5:23-24; Rom.
12:18; Luke 17:3-4).
Be quick about pursuing positive behaviors
(Eph. 4:26).
God’s ways work in how we are to react when
we are angered.
6. The Plan of Salvation
Hear (Romans 1:16; 10:14, 17)
Believe (John 8:24; Mark 16:16; Hebrews
11:6)
Repent (Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30)
Confess (Romans 10:9-10; Matthew 10:32-33)
Be baptized (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Mark 16:16)
Live faithfully (Revelation 2:10; Matthew
6:33; Romans 12:1-2; I Corinthians 15:58)
