2. This shot challenged the
conventions of horror in a
numberof ways
The actual content of the shot
is one way we did this. Horror
films very rarely have shots of a
bright blue sky, as this usually
creates a sence of cheer and
happiness, which is not usually
wanted in horror films
The colours and composition are another way, the
light blue that makes up most of the shot is rarely
used in these films, especially as the main colour
for the shot
However, with editing and with
music added on, a soundtrack that
created a contrapuntal sound in
relation to the visual, an eerie feel
was created
Also, the fact that the shot is
very abstract and artisic is
quite unconventional, as
generally horror films do not
use many of these types of
shots
3. The font we used
conformed to the
conventions in some way,
but challenged in others
One way in which it
is conventional is
that in relation to
the genre itself, the
font is very typical.
The colour of the
font and the bold
thick writing is
easily associated
with horror.
The thick bold style of the
writing conforms to the
general style of titling, this
style of font is very often
usedThe colour used however is
very unconventional. The
colour used in titling is
typically white, so the red
challenges the conventions
quite strongly.
The black
background is very
conventional, and
has been used in
many films
throughout the
years, although is
less common now
4. This could be considered
conventional or
unconventional.
The setting where most of
the footage thst was shot
esd in thid pub
In English dramas and horrors,
pubs are very commonly used as
settings, however in other
countries not so often
It also gave us a lot of natural lighting, and bright lighting
is usually very unconventional for horror films
5. The first 45 secons, up to this
point, is very conventional of
a horror film. You do not get a
look of the characters face for
the first 45 seconds
This helps
create
enigma
codes, and
builds a
strong sense
of mystery
Also up untill
this point there
had been
nothing unusual
shown, and
nothing to
suggest
anything out of
the ordinary.
Lighting camera
work etc were
all as standard.
Up untill this point the film
is quite conventional of a
normal film, such as
comedy, drama etc, but
rather unconventional for a
horror
6. Both characters here ar
are very hard to identify, this isvery conventional
of horror films and this creates enigma codes.
Camera work very
conventional, used to
throw characters out of
confusion, making the
audience to see.
Lighting used to create
silhouettes of the characters,
as the light is coming from
behind them, again often
used in horror films so it is
rather conventional
7. This shot is very well lit and
the light coming from
behind the female gives a
sort of angelic effect
This type of well lit scene is
very uncommon in horror,
and these effects are very
rarely created
Also the use of these
2 characters is very
unconventional.
Typically the male
would be the
antagonist and the
female the victim.
However we
switched it around
and this is quite rare
and very
unconventional
8. The camera angle of this shot is quite unconventional for
general media, but not so much forthis genre.
This angle is
used quite
often in horror
films, usually
to show some
sort of
instablility, or
insanity of a
persons
mindset
9. This shot is very conventional to a horror film
The
costume is
very typical
of many
genres for
this type pf
character,
particuarly
horror,
where
stereotypes
are often
over
exagerated
This lighting is also
very conventional.
It has a very bright
foreground and a
very dark
background.
Horrors often use
it fo focus your
attention in a
single place.
Knives are a prop very strongly associated
with horror, this is very typical of the genre
10. The black background conforms
to the hgeneral conventions of
film titling
The red font is
strongly
associated
with horro and
often connotes
blood/death
However the style of the
writing could be
considered quite difficult
to read, this goes against
the general conventions of
titling.
