ICIC 2014 Patent Citation Analysis: Tools and Techniques Dr. Haxel Consult
Cited references and citing references link patent documents through time and by subject. As citations do not depend on text search, they can be particularly useful for identifying patents from the Asian languages. Using forward and backward citations can enhance subject retrieval and provide added competitor information. Tools for searching and viewing patent citations, both forwards and backwards are now standard on most commercial patent information platforms. An overview of these will be presented. When using patent citations for search and analysis, it’s important to understand their origin. I will start by going back to basics and present an overview of the different types of patent citations, and how to use them wisely.

Information that is relevant for researchers and decision makers in the Life Sciences comes from many different backgrounds: Scientific publications, patents, news, clinical reports, user-generated content, they all may be required to understand trends, opportunities and threats. A key to providing quick and comprehensive overview is having information from various source in one place and semantically enrich and normalize them and relate them to one another.
We present the key principles of a platform that serves that purpose and that provides users with insights into the scientific, clinical and competitive intelligence landscape of their respective area of interest. Forged in close collaboration with industry practitioners, the Luxid Biopharma Navigator is today used in production by hundreds of experts.
ICIC 2014 Valuing IP in the Chemical Space – Science, Art and Special Conside...Dr. Haxel Consult
The valuation of intellectual property is becoming an increasingly important component of realising return on R&D; investment, overall business strategy and IP portfolio management. Like other forms of property, the value of intellectual property is determined by what the buyer is prepared to pay for its perceived value, and what the seller is willing to accept. This is ultimately decided by negotiation. However, there is much that can be done to substantiate the value in support of the position of either the seller or the buyer. From the seller’s viewpoint, being able to place the IP accurately on the competitive landscape is critical to establishing how important the IP is, and hence its perceived market value. On the buyer’s side, the accurate assessment of the market position held by the IP on the technology landscape against competition will help determine whether this is a blocking technology, or whether it can ultimately be worked around. This is a combination of science and art. There are also special considerations to be factored in for the chemical technology space. In all cases, IP information and analysis tools play a central role in providing support for valuation of IP. This presentation will use a case study approach to examine the issues and provide insight into how organizations can more accurately assess the importance of their IP, and hence the current and potential market value of that IP.

ICIC 2014 The Future of Pharmaceutical and Life Science Publishing Industries Dr. Haxel Consult
The pharmaceutical and life science publishing industries have seen and will continue to see big changes over the next few years. Reallocation of library budgets, refocusing of R&D activities, generics and increased transparency in one; open access mandates, text-mining as a research requirement, and an explosion in mobile internet access globally in the other. There is also likely to be further consolidation and collaboration between "big beasts" of both industries as they adjust to changing revenues due to the growth of generics and open access. Both industries are also aware of the continued growth of innovation-led start-ups and disruptive technologies. Technological changes at the interface of pharma and STM Publishing: Mobile, Tablet and now wearable hardware such as Glass make things look even more interesting going forward. What does all this, and more, mean for the generation, processing, delivery and use of scientific content for the pharma and biotech industries?
While the perpetual quest for access to more full-text coverage and authorities goes on, what are patent databases doing beyond expanding content and coverage? How can all of this help you?
This talk will highlight various innovations and capabilities being added to Patent Research Platforms that add greater value to day-to-day operations of patent and scientific information teams. Various innovations for the patent professional, the patent department, the patent analyst and the patent licensing teams will be highlighted and discussed in depth. We will also take a look at what future innovations can be expected in the next 2 years.
II-SDV 2016 Aalt van de Kuilen - The Art of Patent LandscapingDr. Haxel Consult
This presentation will give some guidelines on how to create a meaningful Patent Landscapes. Generating patent landscaping reports seems simple, but it isn’t. For making patent landscapes you have to take several different issues into consideration.
It’s important at the start to already have in mind what kind of landscape report you are going to prepare, and choose a topic of interest, but preferable not one that is too broad. It’s also extremely important to have a clean (80-90% relevance) dataset that the landscape is based on; otherwise the outcome will be rubbish. And of course, do not use landscapes for questions that require a legal opinion (like Freedom-to-operate conclusions!!). Patent landscapes are not aimed to be as precise as other patent searches.
Some more important issues has to be taken in account and are presented.
Wearable medical devices are small electronic products, often consisting of one or more sensors, and having computational capability. They are embedded into items that are attach to the body parts, such as head, feet, arms, wrists and waist. They can resemble a watch, eyeglasses, some clothing, contact lenses, shoes or even jewellery.

The free, one-hour webinar, Sourcing with Social Media: Tips from a Corporate Sleuth, was originally held Nov. 13, 2013.
During this session, the principal in a competitive-intelligence firm will teach you how to harness social media to identify “influencers” – both regionally and nationally – in industries you cover, as well as how to contact them successfully.
YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO:
Find people who are experts on the topics related to your story
Identify sources at a regional and a national level
Get from their handle to their real name, and find them on many sites
“Listen in” on these people as they broadcast across a variety of social media
Determine their tone related to the topic – pro/against, etc.
Determine the extent of their reach; when they talk, how many people listen?
Determine the best way to reach out to them and make contact

Technology Review #1 Emerging Application of Technology (Cons.docxssuserf9c51d
Technology Review #1: Emerging Application of Technology (Consumer or Business).
This paper is the first of two Technology Reviews that you will research and write for this course. For this paper, you must choose an emerging application of technology which is suitable for future use in a consumer-oriented product or service (i.e. a new product for personal or home use) or a business-oriented product or service.
The technology review papers will be used to prepare your technology selection paper for the Analysis of Alternatives exercise later in the course. Your audience for these papers is a group of senior executives who will be meeting to decide which emerging technologies or emerging applications of technologies should be selected for one or more security-focused, Internal Research & Development projects during the next budget cycle. Each of these executives is responsible for a business area that will (a) develop products which incorporate the emerging technologies or (b) depend upon such products to support their organization’s operations.
For this paper, you will perform the first three stages of the technology scan:
Technology scanning is an evaluation model that is used when you need to develop a list of candidate technology solutions. A technology scan can also be used when you need to obtain information about the latest advancements in security products and technologies.
The technology scan has four stages: scoping, searching, evaluating, and recommending.
SCOPING
The scoping phase of this technology scan has already been performed. Your scope is stages 3, 4, and early stage 5 as shown in the figure below.
SEARCHING
To begin, select a technology which is in the early-stage technology development, product development or early production/marketing stages of the product lifecycle (Stages 3, 4, or early stage 5 in the figure above). You may use news articles, press releases, and government or company Web sites to help you find an appropriate technology. (Remember to cite these sources in your paper.)
Technologies which are currently in these stages include:
· Big Data Analytics
· Wearable Computing Devices (choose 1 specific device)
· Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) (devices & electrical circuits)
· Graphene
· Dielectric thin films
· Magneto-electric magnetic sensors
· Nano imprinting
· Nano machines
· Neuromorphic computer chips
You are encouraged to look for and investigate additional appropriate technologies before deciding upon your technology choice for this assignment.
If you decide to research a technology that is not on the suggested technologies list (see above), you must first request and receive your instructor’s permission. Your instructor may require that you do preliminary library searches for research papers and technical papers to prove that you can find a sufficient number of resources to complete the assignme ...

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Editor's Notes
Back on our “Databases Best For” Web page, the “Market Research” category is where you’ll find databases that include market research reports (note that no more than two in each categroy are restricted to use by the Anderson School only). MarketResearch.com Academic provides genuine, full-text market research reports that cover products, services, and types of consumers—that is, people categorized by age, or by sex, or by specific interests. And I especially want to recommend one of our newest, and already most popular, databases, IBISWorld industry market research, which covers 97% of all U.S. industry.
I also want to tell you about IBISWorld industry reports.
How to drill down into an IBISWorld report
Here I’m proceeding on the assumption that it’s correct to classify the product in the category of “household appliances.” MarketLine provides detailed analyses and overviews of both industries and companies, and its coverage is worldwide. “Browse by Industry” can be a quick and easy way to focus on the industry relevant to your research.
Here’s a sample Industry Profile title page. “Datamonitor” is the name of the international market research firm that produces these reports.
MarketLine also provides profiles of companies, both for the United States and for scores of countries around the world.
Features of a typical company report in MarketLine: reports on the biggest companies usually have a SWOT analysis. This is an analysis of a company’s Strenghts, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Understanding how these factors may impact a large company and its products or services can be applicable to a much smaller enterprise, as well. All company reports also identify competitors. SWOT analyses for competitor can suggest still more points to consider—or watch out for—in developing and marketing your product.
Business Source Complete is the major database source for finding articles in business magazines and journals. Start by using the Thesaurus to find subject terms used for indexing articles.
Here’s how to find the right subject indexing terms to use to find articles about the kitchen appliances industry.
MarketResearch.com Academic contains actual market research reports—publications that can cost multi-thousands of dollars apiece, and more, in the real world. You can browse by categories, or use the “Advanced Search” to look for specific words and phrases anywhere in the texts of the reports.
