Burr Background Burr ran for President as an independent after Jefferson kicked him off of his team.  Hamilton campaigned heavily against Burr which caused him to lose to Morgan Lewis. After Hamilton voiced a slur upon Burr with no apology, Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel.
Hamilton Background Alexander Hamilton was one the brightest of our forefathers.  He helped rid us of our national debt. He helped create a national bank.  He created tariff and excise taxes to help pay off the debt.
Why Conflict? Burr and Hamilton were from different parties and had very different viewpoints on how to handle the government.  They traded insults back in forth until Burr snapped and challenged Hamilton to a duel.
The Duel On Jul 11, 1804, Burr and Hamilton departed on separate boats from Manhattan and went to the Heights of Weehawken in New Jersey. When the announcement was made for them to fire, Hamilton refused to raise his pistol and Burr shot and killed him.
