Canada is known as being diverse, very progressive and multicultural. Although the Canadian, until the year of 1940s were just considered in terms of French and English language, cultural and political identities as well as to some extent also aboriginal. Ukrainian and German Canadians ethnicity were suspects at the time of First World War, as they were initially enemy states citizens. There was an issue about Anti-semitism in Quebec, Jewish Canadian were believe that Quebec Catholic Church connected Jews with liberalism, radicalism and several other objectionable values on their according (PALMER, 2012). While the United States black ex-slave refugees were tolerated, Asian or African racial minorities were usually believed “beyond the pastel” by missing a morality sense. The mood started shifting dramatically at the duration of Second World War. Nonetheless, the Japanese Canadians were jailed in war as well as their properties were also confiscated. Earlier to the Canadian Multiculturalism advent in Canada, in the context of equal acceptance of religions, races and cultures was accepted as the Canadian government official policy in the 1970s and 1980s, in the prime ministership of Pierre Elliot Trudeau (Canadian Multiculturalism Act, 2012). The government of Canada has been described the multiculturalism instigator as a philosophy, for the reason its public concentrates on social importance of immigration rights in 1960 plus its successor in 1982 the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom. The Canadian laws did not give much in the path of civil rights as well as it was generally a concern of courts. From the period of 1960s the Canadian has placed prominence on inclusiveness and equality for all people.
For the last 2 years CCAP has been visioning, mapping and planning with low income DTES residents to figure out what they want for their community. It is almost complete. Watch for it on our blog next month. Meanwhile Jean and Wendy from CCAP, Gena from the Carnegie Association, Hugh from VANDU and Stacey from the DTES Neighbourhood House presented a power point on our vision and the actions necessary to improve the DTES from a residents' perspective to a team of city staff who work on DTES issues. The meeting went quite well. We got some pointers and hopefully helped them understand more fully that the DTES is a real community with many important assets.
We’re hoping our newly formed Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood Council will, with its strong basis of unity and unique elected representation and structure, work to implement this vision.
The Blackfoot Canadian Cultural Society is recognized across Canada for their contribution and commitment to fostering cross-cultural and community awareness relating to aboriginal arts and culture, and generating support and resources for many of the individual artists.
Since founding the society in 1998, Executive Director Mary Ann Crow Healy has worked tirelessly to achieve these goals through programs such as the International Peace Pow Wow, Aboriginal Artists Award Ceremony, Miss Blackfoot Canada Pageant, the Blackfoot Art Gallery and Soaring Heart projects. Both personally and professionally, Ms. Crow Healy continues to inspire us with the strength of her vision and commitment to this task.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

between 1871-1906)

In 1830 the colonialist introduced a new
policy of ‘civilization’ and
‘Christianization’ and removal of Indians
to reserves.
The Federal Indian Act (1876) defined
Indian status and outlined how Indians
could acquire full Canadian citizenship
by relinquishing their culture, traditions
and rights to land.

the Indian Act as a temporary
measure to control Aboriginal
peoples until they were fully
assimilated through
enfranchisement. It was not until
1960 that Indians were granted
the right to vote in federal

Aboriginal children were forcibly
removed from their families and

Our people and nations have been
here as long as the English have
been in England, and will continue
to do so as long as the grass is
green and the water runs.
35. Aboriginal Settlement in Grey Bruce
The Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation and
the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation share
the same traditional territories in southwest
Ontario.
They are part of the ancient Three Fires
Confederacy of Ojibway, Odawa, and
Pottawatomi. The Anishnabek nation is the
second largest Indigenous nation in North
America,after the Navajo Apache, with
successful councils, self government and
unity.
36. Traditionally, the Anishnaabek had the Dodem clan system of
government. Men and women practiced consensus decision
making and followed their own conscience when making a
choice.
They fished, hunted, created maple syrup, gathered rice,
discovered medicines, and traded with the Huron and Odawa
for corn, squash, beans that came from an extensive network
of trading across Turtle Island that ran from Peru through
Mexico.

Racism is the intentional or

separate and exploit others. This
use of power is based on a belief in
superior origin, identity of supposed
racial characteristics.
Racism confers certain privileges on
and defends the dominant group,
which in turn sustains and
