- ED Unit of Council – responsibilities, initiatives Sutherland Shire Council’s Economic Development Unit sees its role as helping connect, inform and support Shire businesses so that they can succeed, grow, create local jobs and enhance the economic wellbeing of the Shire.
- We work in conjunction with the education providers in the Shire looking for trends in the local market, skill shortages and opportunities to ensure our industries are sustainable. Aging population – succession planning We subscribe to various statistical and profiling packages to provide research and statistics for businesses, and recently conducted a comprehensive business survey which will feed into our programs and initiatives going forward.
- We look for opportunities to connect businesses with other networks and organisations in the Shire such as the Business Enterprise Centre, Regional Development Australia and Economic Development Australia. Council also has a Business Accelerator – the SSHED – which provides office space and business development support and Council also provides a high level of support for tourism operators through Shire Tourism.
