– Bigger ≠ Better. Often, small- to mid-level businesses can

• Narrow or siloed practices, policies and programs
• A focus on ROI or operational efficiency
• Inconsistent behaviors and misaligned values from the top down
• Fear of the unknown/hesitancy to try something new

What it Takes to Truly Be a
Conscious Business
Step One: Focus on Purpose
• Focus on that higher purpose – your company’s why.
– Profit maximization and operational efficiency cannot be the primary goal.
• Reframe success and subsequently all the operations needed to
achieve that higher order purpose
• You may need to examine and update your own practices, and
maybe those of your industry as a whole.

Step Two: Create a Conscious Culture
• Embodying a consistent culture of consciousness is also a critical
factor in becoming (or sustaining) the standard of a conscious
business.
– To do so requires awareness, alignment, and consistent behavior among
everyone in the company, in relation to the company values.
• Company philosophies need to be clear, communicated, and reiterated so that all
employees from the top-down know the company values and their place within it.
– Leadership should always lead by example and ensure a conscious approach
personally, as well as across the company.

Step Three: Create Conscious Processes
• Reframe success: Have a higher purpose and move past profit as a
goal, both personally and for your company
• Disrupt the norm: Examine your company and your industry’s
practices to see where changes can be made. Often traditional
operations and process, both internally and in your field, can be
updated.
• Embody a consistent culture of consciousness: drive awareness,
alignment, and consistent behavior among everyone in the
company, in relation to the company values.
