On May 13, 2021 Berry Architecture + Associates provided a community update session to share the project progression. During this session, we provided a review of the community engagement sessions and the comments that we heard, talked about the site and its context in relation to the surrounding communities, shared the schematic design floor plans and elevations for the project and answered a few questions from members of the community.
This session was important for us to have with the community to showcase how many of the comments and ideas that they provided throughout the community engagement sessions have been evaluated and incorporated into the schematic design of the new lodge. The floor plans and elevations that were shown during this presentation are not final and will continue to evolve as the project progresses further through the design process.

Water conservation initiatives in Sumadhura Shikharam ADDA
Mr Abishek Anand, from Sumadhura Shikharam, Bangalore, winner of the Rise High awards for water management talked about problems of water in East Bangalore. He talked about how through a door to door awareness campaigns with kids in the forefront has helped. Communication of water-related facts and issues, nozzles put on taps to reduce the water flow has brought down water consumption by around 50% and they are a zero tanker dependent society now.

Dr Arundathi Gadwe from Shriram Spurthi mentioned how they started doing various health initiatives such as regular health checks and cancer awareness camp. The complex also does health sessions like regular yoga sessions and healthy posture camps for domestic staff.

In phases, they installed 85 kW Rooftop solar system. And they are proud to say that there was a reduction in energy consumption from more than 830 units per day to 340 units per day within a span of six months.
During recent summer, the electricity bill even came down even to Rs. 5000 from the initial bill of Rs.3,59,000 a year ago. And at the same time, the maintenance charges came down to around to Rs.10,500 per quarter in place of Rs.54,000.

Apartment Complexes typically has large un-utilized roof space which can be used for such installations. The system can also be integrated with existing systems making it easy to get started. Between 1996 and today, the cost of solar panels has fallen by almost 99%. Changes in regulations and improvement of technology have made it a very dependable source of power. Typically payback period is 5-6 years.
