THE LORD OF THE MIRACLES

                        History

At about 1560 or 1570, a little Indian wished to get a crucifix
for her poor hut.

She was informated which it was necessary to collect
seventy reals, in that epoch: seventy reals was appreciated
quantity for an Indian: such as was her job, but she noticed
that a neighbood was threatened by a thief.

That good woman, for leaving in peace the man gave the
man all his money. She continued to wash clothes near
Guadalajara Rivers, which crosses the city nowadays. A
lucky day, she saw an odd object made of wood; she took it
and carried it home.

The little woman heard strange noises, they came from a side
it was on left the Christ. She approached and noticed the
crucifix had grown up and the box was destroyed absolutely
then again, people started venerating the image. The hut
became a santuary. This old legend represents prehistory the
lord of the miracles, an authentic religious page lived by a
simple woman.

History confirms us that the old image is with relationed to
Buga from its beginning a chapel was built on field by one
of its founders, Rodrigo Diaz de Fuenmayor. Unfortunately,
the image was damaged because some peregrins took splints
from crucifix.

When an eclesiastic visitor saw the object, he ordered to
burn it because there was no devotion. In 1655; Doña Luisa
de la Espada also testified it. She affirmed that image was
not burnt, so the image produced sweat. Many people were
thanked by the image in several occasions.

In September and October, 1757, the bishop of Popayan,
Diego Del Corro ordered to recolest whatever document
founded in Popayan. His intention was to carry to Lima for
Acquisition Tribunal.
In 1783 the director of the seminar, in Popayan sent
document to Rome ordered by the bishop. The Pope Pio VI
answered it through 22 “perpetuous short”, which he gave
enough indulgences to the peregrines. The copy stands as
clerical documents.
