Annual Budget.
• A plan for the expenditures for a fiscal year. Making
an annual budget involves balancing an nation’s revenue
with its expenses.
• True to expectations, finance minister Arun Jaitley’s fifth and
final full-year budget, coming just a little over a year before
the next general election, is marked by big spending.
• The budget expenditure focused on alleviation farm distress,
enabling “ ease of living” for the masses and laying the
foundation of an ambitious healthcare safety net for the poor,
which Jaitley described as “Modicare”.

Budget 2018: Prudent,
productive and political
• Fiscal deficit goal revised to boost spending:
Deficit target for current fiscal raised to 3.5% of gross domestic product
form the earlier 3.2%, while FY19 estimate gets pushes form 3 to 3.33%
• Farm sops may push up food inflation:
Inflation may accelerate in june–july when govt agencies procure farm
produce, say experts, which could prompt RBI to tighten monetary policy
• Jaitley puts the spotlight on hob creation:
Enhanced infrastructure spending, tax spos to small industries, special
package for textiles among measures aimed at generating employment
• Infrastructure sector gets a Rs. 2.97 tn push:
Jaitley announces government’s new road map for infrastructure, which
includes plans to introduce seaplanes and a passenger-friendly toll policy
• Railways gets a record Rs. 1.48 trillion:
Budget proposal includes track doubling, 5000 km of gauge
conversion, redeveloping 600 railway station to equip them with
Wi-fi, CCTVs
• Education outlay at Rs 85,010 cr:
Allocation less than 4% higher than revised budget estimate for
fiscal 2018

Sensex logs worst budget day performance in five years on
government's decision to tax profit of more than RS 1lakh from
shares held over a year
• Mandatory bond market borrowing for firms on cards:
Move parts of continuing efforts by government and regulators to
limit the exposure of banks to companies and develop the
corporate bonds market
• Populist measure to the fore ahead of polls :
The last union budget before the general election prioritizes
issues and schemes related to women, farmers, youth and the
poor
• A good beginning for reviving agriculture:
The budget proposal for the sector show movement in the right
direction, powered pumps to be but may not be enough to revive
it and double farmer incomes,
• Incentives for farmers to switch to clean energy:
Surplus power generated by solar – powered pumps to be bought
by the state electricity distribution firms in bid to help emerging
green economy
