New professionals in the library and information science field can now network and collaborate on an international level through the New Professionals Special Interest Group (NPSIG). NPSIG provides opportunities for training, inspiration, and impact through a global informal network accessible virtually or in-person. The group hosts webinars, meetings at conferences, and an open online community to easily involve new LIS professionals worldwide in networking and skills development.

The NPSIG report summarizes recent and upcoming activities of the New Professionals Special Interest Group. Molly Schwartz has been selected as the incoming NPSIG Convenor for the next two years. The IFLAcamp Library Creative Laboratory was held in May in Kaliningrad, Russia. Upcoming events include a joint session at WLIC 2013 on best practices for new librarians and a NPSIG workshop at BOBCATSSS 2014. Plans are underway for IFLAcamp at WLIC 2014 in Lyon, France and a second Library Creative Laboratory in 2014 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Inspiring future leaders: empowering New Professionals in the UK

This document summarizes the rise of new professionals in the UK library association CILIP since 2009. It describes how the authors, two of whom were new professionals at the time, engaged and empowered other new library and information professionals by creating and nurturing the New Professionals Network. This grassroots movement provided new professionals with opportunities to influence and transform CILIP.
