The press release summarizes information about addiction and Brian's Safehouse rehabilitation facility. It defines addiction as the compulsive use of harmful substances that causes physiological withdrawal symptoms. It notes that addiction costs society billions annually by preventing people from being productive members of the workforce. Brian's Safehouse was founded after its namesake Brian died of a drug overdose, and offers a 13-month rehabilitation program that teaches life skills and job training to help residents recover from addiction and become productive members of their communities.

According to (Mcenroe-Petitte 2020) shows in 2018, 64.8 percent of 552,830 homeless individuals reside within a homeless shelter, within a supportive service that lasts for a course of 2 years. Additional research was done across all age groups in 2016 distinguished the difference between sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals. Unsheltered individuals are usually found in the street, residing in vehicles, and in parks are more likely to be white while the emergency shelter is Black. Researchers show the highest rate of homelessness is found in California, New York, Florida, and Texas.
One of the barriers for the homeless population in Florida is obtaining medical care and filing prescription medications due to lack of insurance. For the homeless population faces many conditions, from HIV/AIDS, Substance abuse, and various communicable diseases such as TB and hepatitis. Hepatitis A requires a specific healthcare plan that is not always attainable by the homeless population. Often the homeless population seeks healthcare aides from the emergency department.
Per (Mcenroe-Petitte 2020) shows that” Although Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act may qualify people who are homeless for specific services, certain states may not recognize coverage or may limit its availability. Not having access to insurance can make having a communicable disease like hepatitis A and treating the sickness be difficult for a homeless individual. Many, obstacles can alter the care of a homeless patient, such as waiting for an extreme case of sickness prior to getting aid, other factors can be having access to transportation and covering the cost of a prescription.
In conclusion at the present time, there is one federally funded program, Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) many states can use the program for resources. Treating homelessness has a whole, is having an answer for different issues that community face versus one size fits all approach would help put an end to not only homelessness as well as Hepatitis A.

As noted in the previous discussion, my practicum projects focus on the prevention of substance abuse among adolescents in Tucson, Arizona. It is the second-largest city in Arizona after Pheonix. Adolescence is a transitional, developmental phase with a marked shift in behavior, mainly as related to risk-taking and experimentation. Genetic influences on adolescent behavior show marked changes across this developmental period. The developmental period of adolescence is characterized growth spurt, brain development, sexual maturation and identity (Dick, Adkins & Kuo, 2016).
Like other health issues, alcohol use can be linked to a complex array ranging from an individual level that is related to population-level of cultural and societal factors. The most common form of risk behavior among this group is the use of alcohol, which .
Rudolph Basson: Support or punish – reconsidered approaches to drug related h...SACAP
Harm Reduction acknowledges that drug use occurs and is potentially damaging, and attempts
to reduce and prevent these harms in ways, which are pragmatic and humanistic. Although the
harm reduction approach and specific harm reduction interventions (including needle and
syringe programmed and methadone programmed) have been implemented with resounding
success internationally (including in a number of African countries) for more than 20 years, the
South African approach to substance use and substance-related harms is still largely informed
by the doctrine and strategies of the "War on Drugs", and focuses almost exclusively on
prohibition and punishment. Because of the strong link between drug use and poverty, different
policy approaches to poverty and homelessness must also be considered. My talk will critically
examine these two approaches to drug use, poverty, and displacement (support or punish), as
they are being implemented in Cape Town. Opportunity for discussion will be provided.

Chapter 5
5. Eaton Tool Company has fixed costs of $255,000, sells its units for $66, and has variable costs of $36 per unit.
Break-even analysis
(LO5-2)
a. Compute the break-even point.
b. Ms. Eaton comes up with a new plan to cut fixed costs to $200,000. However, more labor will now be required, which will increase variable costs per unit to $39. The sales price will remain at $66. What is the new break-even point?
c. Under the new plan, what is likely to happen to profitability at very high volume levels (compared to the old plan)?

b. Degree of financial leverage.
c. Degree of combined leverage.
d. Break-even point in units.
14. International Data Systems information on revenue and costs is only relevant up to a sales volume of 105,000 units. After 105,000 units, the market becomes saturated and the price per unit falls from $14.00 to $8.80. Also, there are cost overruns at a production volume of over 105,000 units, and variable cost per unit goes up from $7.00 to $8.00. Fixed costs remain the same at $55,000.
Nonlinear breakeven analysis
(LO5-2)
a. Compute operating income at 105,000 units.
b. Compute operating income at 205,000 units.

There are many correlations to crime. Correlations of crime include factors such as poverty, unemployment,
mental illness, IQ, and substance abuse. Many studies have been devoted to looking specifically at the
connection between drugs and crime. Youth throughout the entire United States are surveyed annually to
assess their initial and continued exposure to drugs through self, friends, and/or family use. Data describing
drug use across age groups report alarming trends. For example, more than half of young adults will have

1. Press Release – June 2015
Meriam-Webster defines addiction as “a compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance
(as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological
symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user
to be harmful1”
. As time marches on, the addicts find themselves enslaved to a substance or
activity and are unable to maintain their roles as productive members of society. This causes the
addicts to become “consumers” in society. This “consumer” mindset costs our communities
billions of dollars over time. The US Government recognizes this emerging trend. In fact, the
National Institute on Drug Abuse had this to say, “The total costs of drug abuse and addiction due
to use of tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs are estimated at $524 billion a year. Illicit drug use
alone accounts for $181 billion in health care, productivity loss, crime, incarceration and drug
enforcement.2
” It is apparent that this problem is of epidemic proportions. Without help, addicts
are unable to enter the job market in any meaningful way. This is where facilities like Brian’s
Safehouse come in.
Brian’s Safehouse, known fondly as “the Safehouse,” was birthed out of a tragedy. Founders Leon
and Donita Brush lost their son Brian, 23, to prescription drug abuse. Following this event, Leon
and Donita began their mission to offer aid to those struggling with life-controlling issues. Now
with a capacity for 12 men, the Safehouse is able to reach out to many in southern West Virginia
and surrounding areas.
The treatment program offered by Brian’s Safehouse is 13-months in length and teaches young
men how to regain control of their lives. It also teaches men how to become “producers” in their
communities specifically through the teaching of skills that are invaluable to any workforce. The
program involves rigid structure and supervised living. There are daily tasks assigned to each
resident which help teach time management, integrity and responsibility. Additionally, each day
involves several hours of instructional time. These classes help the residents to understand their
situation, take responsibility and learn to move forward. The classes also teach the residents
organization, how to communicate effectively, and even how to maintain personal finances.
While the program is faith based at its core, the administrators of the Safehouse also understand
the importance of developing marketable job skills that enable former addicts to become valuable,
productive members of society.
