Developing Your Own Resources
Is you intake department a “growth engine”?
By Lynn Sucher

Yes there is a weekly e-mail that I subscribed to
In a survey of 1,450 companies late last year by Accenture, customer service ranked as
the first area businesses would increase funding for, as the economy recovers. Customer service
may sound like it is un-nessasearey in the “substance abuse” field, but when a potential client is
looking for help the first person they talk to has to have great customer service skills. The intake
process is very important. The people who answer the phones have to not only be friendly and
polite, but they must have knowledge about all the programs and processes’ in their facility.
Teamwork is a must, thecounselors and human resource team need to communicate and find the
best plan that works for them. When a potential client calls they need to feel welcomed and
respected, all their questions need to be answered, and they should feel that all their needs and
worries will be meet. With a great team, not only will clients keep coming , but revenue will
increase significantly. When hiring and training make sure you are looking for the best,
someone who cares and will fallow a written plan to the fullest. Phone calls need to be answered
and the staff should be able to close the deal and bring the clients in. All in all, when

counselorswork with the human resource team and helps them to be knowledgeable about what
and when things happen in their facility there will be happy clients and more money.
Wraparound Programs Succeed in Helping troubled Youth.
By copyright 2012 American Psychiatric Association

There is a bi-weekly newsletter I subscribed to
Wraparound programs seem to be a great idea to strengthen the troubled youth in a single
community. It’s a programthat involves community based relationships and support networks
between children with emotional or behavior difficulties, their families, teachers, and other
caregivers. The program makes the family’s perspective the most important in designing a plan
for the child. This means a more individualized care and using the child strengths to help.
Hopefully letting the child finally feel like they are someone and people do care about them. The
children come from multi-diverse communities and are already involved in child welfare, mental
health, substance abuse, special education, or juvenile justice, and are deemed to be at risk of
removal from the community. For the team of professionals that work within the program there
are many benefits. Such as greater funding to give the best care for the child needs, the family,
teachers doctors, and the child. One of the other benefits is having other community programs
such as boys and girls club, after school programs, and sports. The psychiatrists are assigned to a
case and they are in charge of all finale decisions. Before the child is ever medicated the school
is even consulted. Patients are provided with everything from legal services, food, housing,
health care, and clothing. The close contact with the schools help keep the child from failing and

gets the parents involved. I think wraparound programs would be beneficial to all communities
big and small.
Bakers, labs thrive in legal grey area

They send a lot of different information thru many channels I did sign up
“Medibles”-a home based business making marijuana infused products. This is very
popular in California, Colorado, Washington, and Arizona. However the problem is in
Washington some of the makers of these products would like laws that regulate how much THC,
how clean the kitchen is where it’s made, expiration dates, and how it should be stored. The
problem with those things happing id federal law says marijuana is illegal and that is who
controls the FDA. The state knows medibles are used and manufactured but will not do any kind
of quality health inspection. The bill was vetoed by GovernorChrisGregoire because he didn’t
want to open state employees to federal jeopardy. Therefore, there food containing marijuana
falls outside of WSDA jurisdiction because it is not a legal commercial product. This does not
stop the wide variety of products ma and sold, it just jeopardizes the means to make it and use it.
Some makers do pay for a private test to help regulate it but that doesn’t always work. Patients
are still getting sick or overdosing on a supercharged product combing from a grungy kitchen.
All of these products should be controlled under the laws like the rest of our food.
Teen substance use: a public health issue

Their newsletter only comes 4times a year and I did subscribe
A case study will take a 2year comprehensive and accessible look at substance use among
high school aged kids is America. Is there a connection between the “cool” stories and pictures
accessible on line and the use of drugs? It will include an extensive literative review, analyses of
6national data sets, and interviews with focus groups, and include surveys from teens, parents,
and school personal. The key goal for this is to help people understand youth substance use
through the lens of public health perception and the disease of addiction as a chronic medical
problem that should be avoided at all costs. The ne culture is
“facebook” and “internet” everyone from anywhere can see parties, pictures, and hear stories of
how much fun someone had getting high or drunk. This is a huge influence on kids attitudes and
perception. Leading into a life of poor judgments and an un real sense of everybody else is
doing it. That leads to more binge drinking and more experimenting which results in more
addicts and alcoholics. Hopefully this study will give us answers on how to stop use early on or
what actions parents can take to prevent use or abuse.

Ecstasy started around the 1980’s as a club drug used at “raves”. It is still most
commonly used my Caucasians but other cultures are using it more regularly. Although it is
used on a recreational basis, it is becoming more popular. MDMA is a man mad psychoactive
drug chemically similar to methamphetamine and a hallucinogen very similar to mescaline.
Ecstasyprimarily affects mood, aggression, and sexual feelings. Several studies show chronic

users have withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue, loss of appetite, and irritability are just a few.
Many physical side effects include but not limited to muscle cramps, blurred vision, and kidney
failure. The biggest hazard of MDMA is the rise in body temperature which has lead to many
deaths. Most common users are aware of this and some clubs shut off the water so they can
make money off of selling water. MDMA can interfere with its own metabolism and
reachpotentially fatal levels when used repeatedly in short amounts of time. One of the most
disturbing facts of ecstasy is it can cause irreversible brain damage to some every day functions
such as learning, sleeping, and emotions.
