A percolator was developed to defat oilseeds using solvent extraction. The percolator holds about 10 kg of oilseed flakes immersed in solvent. It was tested on groundnut, soybean, and moringa seeds, achieving extraction efficiencies of 98.1%, 95%, and 93.4% respectively using n-hexane. The device provides an alternative to soxhlet extraction for defatting large quantities of oilseeds and saves the labor involved in traditional methods.
