All Share Price Index
Market round up
The Colombo Bourse recorded WoW gains to end the streak of three consecu-
tive weekly losses. While the holiday shortened week began with a sharp plunge
in indices, the market bounced back reacting positively to the amended tax
policies. Albeit ending Friday’s session in red, ASPI closed 43.85 points higher
WoW at 9,093.37 points while S&P SL20 closed 10.90 points higher WoW at
2,782.73 points.
Top gainers - SLTL (+30%) emerged as the top gainer for the week followed by
LHCL(+27%) and PARA (+26%).
Top losers - ASPH (-25%) emerged as the top loser for the week followed by
MSL (-25%).
Turnover for the week amounted to ~LKR 10bn averaging a daily turnover of
LKR 2.6bn (4 trading days). Negotiated deals contributed to ~11% of total turn-
over.
Top contributors to turnover – LIOC topped the turnover list with a contribu-
tion of LKR 1.8bn (~17%) followed with a ~11% contribution by EXPO (LKR
1.1bn).
Top contributors to volume – SEMB topped the volume front contributing
~18% to the total volume traded followed by BIL (~13%).
Net foreign inflow/ outflow – Foreigners remained net buyers throughout the
week, posting a net foreign inflow of ~ LKR 1.2bn with JKH leading the net in-
flows.
Sector gainers/losers - Healthcare and equipment sector emerged as the top
gainer followed by Telecommunications sector while Commercial & Professional
services sector was the highest loser.
Macro & Other Updates
The Government gazetted the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill, bringing in new tax
measures to boost State revenue. The gazette reduces the tax-free allowance for
Advance Personal Income Tax (APIT) while also removing concessionary tax rates for
corporates and raising the standard rate to 30% (apart from sin industries which
continue to be taxed at a higher rate of 40%).
World Economic Outlook released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecast-
ed a lower contraction of the Sri Lankan economy than the World Bank. IMF estimat-
ed Sri Lankan economy to contract by 8.7% this year and by 3% next year compared
to World Bank estimates of -9.2% and -4.2% respectively.
Russia’s flag carrier – Aeroflot resumed flights between Moscow and Colombo after a
lapse of four months. It was also announced that flight frequency will be increased
from twice to thrice weekly from November.
Solar Universe Vavunathivu Solar PV Park - a 10MW ground-mounted power plant
funded and developed by Wind Force, Vidullanka and Hi-Energy was declared open
in Batticaloa. The USD 7.248mn project is expected to add 20 GWh annually to the
national grid
