INDIGENOUSPEOPLES&RENEWABLEENERGY
Peru ratified the Paris Agreement and assumed a commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas
(GHG) emissions by 30% with a work plan for the year 2030 that contains mitigation options
and adaptation measures that seek to meet this goal. NDC Peru’s energy sector has two
mitigation options related to increase renewable energy in the matrix in the combination with
other energy sourses and universal access to energy.
Currently, indigenous peoples, led by AIDESEP, seek to implement innovative actions to
support the implementation of NDC Peru through a collective social work called “Minga NDC-
Peru”. This proposal identified 11 trasformative actions that guides indigenous communities to
build their own Life Plans with alternative development strategies in mitigation, adaptation
and climate management issues. This means an importance to empower indigenous peoples
to take climate action not only in the forest sector of the NDC, but beyond, seeking for their
contribution on the accomplishment of the mitigation options in the energy sector, fostering for
energy transition with renewable resourses.
WWF Peru seeks to work with AIDESEP on the universal energy access and enegy transition
with solar photovoltaic energy in urban and rural areas, bringing change and innovation that
becomes them in one of the leaders on the energy sector.

The Dedicated Grant Mechanism (DGM) created by Forest Investment Program (FIP),
provide indigenous and local communities financing and learning mechanisms. In Peru,
it seeks to support indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon to improve their
forest management practices in a more sustainable way. One of their initiatives, “Forest
Entrepreneurs”, aims to work with Paiche aquaculture to contribute on the improvement
of theif subsistence economic means.

What we will do
WWF Peru seeks to train women from indigenous communities in the peruvian amazon on
installation and maintainance of solar energy systems to electrify their communities with solar
off-the-gridsystemsthatwillimprovethesocialandeconomicsituationofthenativecommunities
part of the initiative Forest Entrepreneurs under DGM Saweto Peru projec and bridge the gender
gap by empowering women and supporting their professional development.
Firstphase
WOMENSELECTION
Regional Coordinator of Indigenous Peoples San Lorenzo (CORPI-SL), part of AIDESEP, and
WWF Peru will work on the criteria to select a group of women from Alto Amazonas, Iquitos, who
communities are part of “Forest Entrepenurs” to become Solar Women Technicians by recieving
a training program to become installators of solar systems in the households and generate a
system for their maintainance.

TRAININGININSTALLATIONANDMAINTENANCEOFPHOTOVOLTAICSYSTEMS
The training program will be given in a partnership with Practical Action, who have a Women’s
Solar PV School (WSPVS) in the country. WWF Peru will take women to the solar school, where
they will have training courses in photovoltaic systems with a gender approach in two modules:
• Module I: Introduction to the school, renewable energies and their use for rural
electrification, clean cooking and heating
• Module II: Installation and maintenance of photovoltaic systems.
Thirdphase
INSTALLATIONOFSOLARSYSTEMSINTHECOMMUNITIES
The Solar Women Technicians will return to their communities to install solar photovoltaic
systems on the households of the families to be used for basic needs.
Fourthphase
REFUNDFOR MAINTENANCE
To ensure the management of the electricity service, each community shall work on the creation
of a “Solar Committee” inside the governance structure. The beneficiary communities, guided by
WWF Peru, will work on a financial model to pay for the work of the Solar Women Technicians
to repair and renew the worn parts if needed.

What will we do
This initiative seeks to involve partners of WWF to become leaders in the energy transition
through self-generation with solar energy and intelligent consumption monitors that allow the
evaluation and recommendations on energy efficiency.
Together with WWF, our partnes will become living proof that any organization can install
renewable energy in urban areas to be more efficient in its electricity consumption. They will
become an example on busting the myths on the promotion and use of renewable energy in
peruvian cities.

TRAININGANDMONITORINGTOREDUCEENERGYFOOTPRINT
Under the coordination of WWF Peru, AIDESEP staff will receive, with the support of the solar
partner, training in the framework of the project.
Training
AIDESEP staff will be train on energy efficiency issues to implement actions towards a change
in electricity consumption habits. For this, generated data from phase one will be analyzed
to identify cost-effective energy savings opportunities to guide recommendations on energy
efficiency adapted to the realities of each locality.
Monitoring and maintenance
To achieve the useful life of the solar systems, 1 or 2 s staff will become “solar employees” per
office, who will be the local supervisors in their own offices. They will be in coordination with
WWF Peru during the development of the solar system and will recieve special training on their
monitoring and maintanance.
Firstphase
INSTALLATIONOFSOLARPHOTOVOLTATICSYSTEMS
We will work in the installation of photovoltaic solar structures with inverters connected to the
grid and intelligent consumer monitors in the AIDESEP offices in urban areas. This system will
make possible to reduce electricity consumption. In order to accomplish this first phase, an
energy diagnosis and audit will be generated to estimate the amount of kW needed.
