Counselling for couples: Wishing to strengthen their relationship, clarify their direction, or to
navigate separation. When couples develop fixed patterns of arguing or lose their ‘love connection’ they need help with reconnecting, and addressing the underlying emotions. I am trained in an evidence-based model called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which has great success in dealing with this and healing relationship hurts.
Supervision: I am able to provide professional supervision for counsellors and others in the helping profession.
Professional Services: I am a counsellor of 20 years experience, providing counselling training, art therapy both privately and in the community. As a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors, I am bound by their ethical code, which offers strict protection for both client and counsellor. Our initial session will include discussion on the way I can be of assistance to you. As part of my obligations I receive regular professional supervision.
Confidentiality: All counselling is confidential, the terms of which will be discussed with you. This may include the special considerations for counselling with children. I am bound by the requirements of the Privacy Act 1993, which guide how information is to be collected and stored.
About me: I grew up in Gisborne, Fiji and Hawke’s Bay. I am a parent and I enjoy music, the outdoors and a range of interests.
Modality: Tailored to you, the client, and may include Couple therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative, Emotionally Focussed Therapy, Art therapy, Transactional Analysis, Interactive drawing,
Mind/body therapies.
Guiding philosophy: None of us are immune to life’s challenges. In times of stress, doubt, loss or trauma, counselling provides a safe place for sharing the load, exploring issues, and appraising one’s situation in a new way. Your identity in terms of, relationships, culture and spirituality are often a vital part of this, and lasting change will involve addressing life issues in their context (family, whanau, workplace). I will work with and help you expand upon your own resources.
