The seminar fee is Rs.1000/- (One thousand
only) per participant before June 15th and
Rs.1200 (Twelve hundred only) after due

2. About the Seminar
The seminar focus is on the advancements
in geotechnical engineering, the challenges
faced in the development of engineering
structures. Geotechnical engineering has
always been a challenge as it deals with
complex and non-homogenous materials.
Also, rapid urbanization has increased the
need for tall buildings, underground struc-
tures, slope stabilization, deeper founda-
tions and earthquake resistant design. To
meet the current day requirements geotech-
nical engineers require awareness and
knowledge of the advanced technologies
in the field.
To reduce the gap and transfer the knowl-
edge many workshops, seminars, short
courses and technical lectures were con-
ducted by IIIT-H, to bring the awareness
amongst the professional engineers.
The seminar is designed to have a broader
view on the various advanced aspects of
Geotechnical Engineering interlinked with
Earthquake Engineering. Each of the lec-
tures during this seminar address specific
issues from the beginning to end (from soil
and rock mechanics to earthquake engi-
neering). Past case histories are covered
with respect to their application in practice.
The course lectures cover both fundamen-
tals and applications including hands-on
experience in geotechnical engineering.

Bachelors/Masters Degree in Civil Engineer-
ing/Architecture, Agricultural Engineering &
Mining. The program is beneficial for faculty
members, research scholars, field engineers
and consultants related with infrastructure
developmental activities.

About Geotechnical Engineering
Laboratory
Geotechnical Engineering research labora-
tory ad-dresses a wide range of problems
posed by the spatial variability and complex
material properties of soils and rocks. Geo-
technical engineers design dams, embank-
ments, cuts, foundations, retaining walls,
anchors, tunnels, and all other structures
directly interacting with the subsoil, both
onshore and offshore. Risk assessment asso-
ciated to geohazards such as landslides or
earthquakes is another responsibility of geo-
technical engineers.
Geotechnical engineering is based on soil
and rock mechanics and testing. Analytical
methods play a major role in today’s design
but are more and more replaced by numeri-
cal methods. Geotechnical Engineering
Laboratory is involved with research activi-
ties in soil testing, soil modeling, numerical
analyses, slope stability including progres-
