British Council’s Learn English Podcast
This kind of Learn English Podcast is a mobile application owned by British Council that
can help to learn everyday English by listening audio scripts. This application provides 5 series
in the main menu that consist 64 episodes; 10 episodes in each series 1 and 2, 20 episodes in
each series 3 and 4, and 4 episodes in professional podcast. There are over 20 hours of free
listening about a wide range of topics recorded by native British English speakers which each
episode is played around 20-30 minutes. This application concerns to improve listening skill.
The podcast is hosted by Tess, Ravi, Adam, and Rob that is chatting with different people
and talking about different topics, such as their favorite celebrities, hobbies, making plans for the
weekend, having dinner party, which cities they like to live in, and so on. Also, at the end of
every podcast, there will be an English teacher who will talk or explain the language heard by the
listeners and give ideas to have them learn. Some grammar, idioms, or expressions that are
available in the podcast will be talked by him.
Besides providing free listening about a wide range of topics, this application also has great
features that help to listen and understand the language and the conversation. British Council’s
Learn English Podcast providing audio-script that is moving through the time when listening to
the podcast. The audio-script gets highlight according to the playing audio to help listeners focus
on the listening. The other features of this podcast are background playing and offline access.
The audio can be played even when the screen is turned off. The listeners also can listen to the
podcast offline after downloading episodes onto their phone. Other feature in each podcast is
there is a copy button in audio player screen, so the listeners can copy text from the audio-script
to their device’s clipboard. It can help the listeners if they want to know the meaning of the text
by translating it.

1. Open Play Store for Android or App Store for i-phone to download British Council’s Learn
English Podcast.
2. After it is installed on your mobile phone, open the application. There will be home menu
appearing in the application.
3. In the home menu, there are five series of episodes that will be selected. The application
reversed the order of series by putting newer content on top. To start the lesson, select the
series 1.
4. Download the episodes on series 1. You can download just one episode formerly to be
learned, or you can also downloading all the episodes directly.
5. After downloading process is done, open the episode and listen the audio while you read the
highlight audio-script. When you are listening, try to remember or write down as many of
the main points as possible.

In learning this podcast, listeners also can explore their way to listen to the audio. For
instance, listeners listening to the audio without looking at the audio-script at the first time to
improve their listening, and then at the second time, podcast is played together with looking at
the audio-script to make it clear. I myself as the reviewer usually use this way to learn this
English Podcast. This is how I habituate myself to listen to how the native British English speak
directly.
There are a lot of benefits by using this podcast. As what I can get from this, it increased
my listening skill when I heard the native British English speak. I know how their accent is in
speaking English, also, their traditions and what expressions they usually use in their daily life.
Besides, I got a lot of information about various things in the world; for example, the situations
of various places in the world, kinds of musical instrument, famous people in the world, and so
on. I recommend this application for those who want to learn English, especially British English.
This is suitable to be used whether for beginner or professional.
