I. Mission and Vision Statements
The “What?”
Bright Buccaneer’s make it a mission to serve children of Greenville by being tutors and
mentors that educate, invest in, and inspire future generations of leaders.
The “So What?”
The vision of this program is to increase the academic skills and performance of elementary
students within Pitt County and the surrounding area; Bright Buccaneer’s seeks to recruit and
prepare volunteers to serve as tutors and mentors to local grade school aged children. This
program provides tutor/mentor training prior to placement and scheduling, and then ties local
students to ECU student-tutors. Through community partnerships with three local Boys and
Girls club afterschool programs, we hope to address the educational issues and barriers faced by
many impoverished communities; we seek to give the support and guidance that could make a
difference in a child’s life.
