The document outlines proposals to increase inclusion and engagement of interns, volunteers, work-study students at Building Hope Children's Learning Center. It suggests:
1) Giving interns a manual before training to inform them of their duties and have them brainstorm and plan projects for the semester to increase efficiency.
2) Having interns attend staff meetings to present events and increase exposure between interns and staff.
3) Briefing all volunteers, even once a week participants, on classroom procedures and expectations to maintain consistency for the children.
4) Holding short training meetings for consistent volunteers and one-on-one briefings for sporadic volunteers to ensure they understand their roles and can run classes
Individual Reflective Essay
Throughout this module, I have learned many things and encountered diverse experiences, both exciting and challenging. It has been a great moment to develop my knowledge and understanding in each of the different areas within the course. The module as a whole has enabled me to explore further into my strengths and work on improving my weaknesses so that I can enhance my overall performance. Working with other students during class assignments and projects has enabled me to advance my skills such as communication, effective learning, and teamwork. Besides, working with other people on the various tasks has made the learning experience in Loughborough University more interesting and enjoyable. In fact, in our previous group project, we significantly helped each other and cooperated on all the necessary tasks. The encouragements and inspirations we provided to each other were unprecedented. I feel I have gained a lot from them, exchanging thoughts and ideas about many diverse issues, expressing different viewpoints and inspiring me to develop my own thinking.
This reflective journal is about English Legal System oral presentation for the first semester in my university' life. Along the preparations, we learn how to use technology to make presentation slide. My group members always spend time together to discuss about the assessment. In this assignment, I have learnt how the statutory interpretation works under the english legal system. I know how crucial and important of english language play part of interpreting the meaning of the context. We done a lot of research from textbook materials and internet. We share our idea and thought to resolve the questions of the topic. Throughout this assignment, my group members and I improved on communication skills.

Building for Middle Level Success: Advisory and Advocacy Programs
How do we ensure that every student has an adult advocate who understands and guides his/her academic and social development? In this session, we will answer that question by examining how we build strong advisory and advocacy programs in our middle schools.

Hi everyone! You've now completed three weeks of NR631 (assuming that your literature review is done), and you are ready to move forward to week 4. I'll be grading your TD participation hopefully on Monday and then I'll work on your literature review assignments starting on Tuesday. This is a more extensive assignment and I have assignments due in other courses so it might take me a little longer to get your lit reviews back. I'm anticipating some excellent literature review on your great CGE topics 😎. Let's take a look at what lies ahead in week 4...
Introduction
In week 4, the lesson title is "Communication in Project Management" and we'll be addressing the following course outcomes:
CO #1: Apply leadership skills of project management as a nurse executive in an organizational setting to develop, implement, and evaluate successful project plans (PO 4,5)
CO #3: Exemplify professional values and scholarship that support the role of a student in a practicum setting (PO 4) (this is in reference to your time at your practicum site and you'll see this each week)
CO #5: Apply professional values characteristic of the competent and caring nurse executive that promotes holistic care principles and an appreciation of cultural humility (PO 1,3,4)
I encourage you to keep these course outcomes in mind while you read your text, articles, and lessons, as you participate in TDs, as you participate in practicum hours, and as you complete assignments.
Reading:
Your week 4 reading consists of three articles from peer reviewed journals. Two would be considered "scholarly" by Chamberlain definition as they are within five years old. The Culo article is from 2010 but it's a very good article so I decided to keep it. Please be sure to read these articles prior to constructing your initial TD post.
Lesson:
This week's lesson is about communication and building a communication plan. One point the lesson brings out is that, like most of the templates we are using, many organizations have their own formats or templates. I encourage you to reach out to the PM professionals in your organization and ask about this and compare our template to what you use in your organization. If your organization doesn't use a communication plan, it may be something you can suggest as a value added step.
Collaboration Cafe ☕️:
The week 4 discussion is a Collaboration Cafe ☕️! As with all TDs and Collaboration Cafe's the reduced participation guidelines are in effect for those who need them. I will be reviewing posts each day to make sure you're headed in the right direction. A note of interest...this CC is actually based on an idea that an NR631 student shared in the old week 4 TD. I thought it was such a great thought that I used it (with her permission) to form this learning activity. I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to the knowledge you'll build!

Teacher Leadership Analysis in Action EmilySousa10
Forming leadership groups within a school can help establish norms, set goals, and analyze what in the school could help or hinder efforts. “Fostering a sustainable learning community depends in part on the leaders’ ability to create conditions in which teachers learn to recognize and challenge the usefulness of their existing beliefs and practices in order to improve their student’s education” (Cherkowski, 2012, p. 59). This leadership action plan shows how my leadership team selected a leadership initiative and a collaborative leadership framework for facilitating our work. We laid the groundwork to successfully achieve the leadership initiative, to provide leveled math support/intervention/enrichment to assess if more students are making progress and are appropriately challenged. This analysis allowed our community of practice team to ensure students at various levels are being challenged appropriately, improve student achievement through differentiated instruction, evaluate if work stations can help students become independent/collaborative learners, and create assessments that will monitor progress and help determine where support is needed.

Application: Special Needs From a Variety of Perspectives
Throughout this course, you will be studying many topics related to children with special needs. The readings, content reviews, and Discussions will help you gain a valuable base of information. To expand your knowledge, the course Applications will offer ways to explore areas of special needs in more depth and increase your awareness of what it is like to teach and to parent a child with special needs, or to be someone who has been identified with a special need.
Before you begin the Week 1 Application, review the outline below in order to plan effectively.
Week 1: Write a Brochure on Early Intervention Services.
You will imagine yourself in the role of a Child Development Community Liaison for a nonprofit organization that provides programs related to infant/toddler healthy development. Your job is to create a brochure for infant/toddler program directors and caregivers informing them about your services.
Week 2: Interview with a Teacher or Caregiver.
You will have a choice of interviewing a teacher whose expertise is special education and who works with children ages 3–8, or a teacher or caregiver who has a child or children in his/her setting who have been identified with special needs.
Week 3: Research and Information Exchange, Part 1.
You will research a category of special needs that is of interest to you in order to gain a greater depth of knowledge.
Week 4: Research and Information Exchange, Part 2.
You will share, review, and reflect on fellow students' research on different categories of special needs.
Week 5: Interview with a Parent of a Child with Special Needs or with a Student or Adult with Special Needs.
You will have a choice of interviewing a parent or other close adult family member of a child with special needs, or a person with special needs who would like to share his or her experiences and perspectives.
Week 1: Write a Brochure on Early Intervention Services
As you have learned this week, early intervention services can include programs for infants and toddlers who may be at risk from biological or environmental issues that could lead to developmental delays or other special needs. One challenge to early intervention service providers is to ensure that they reach out and connect with families. All of the various types of infant and toddler programs in a community, including family day care homes, Early Start, faith-based programs, community organizations, can play an important role in connecting families to available early intervention services.
For your Application Assignment this week, imagine that you have been hired as a Child Development Community Liaison for a community organization called The Guidance Center Inc. In reality, this respected, not-for-profit organization serves the communities of Cambridge and Somerville in Massachusetts. As part of The Guidance Center's Early Childhood Services for ages 0–6 , their Infant-Toddler Services include four p.

1. IDEAS FOR INTERNS AND
VOLUNTEERS
Destiny Devone
Abstract
A short document outlining possible modifications for intern and volunteer involvement.
November 30, 2015
2. INTERN AND VOLUNTEER MANGEMENT DEVONE, D. 1
Intern and Volunteer Objective
A few weeks ago we discussed some changes and practices we could implement to
increase inclusion and sense of community between the interns, volunteers, work-study students,
and professional staff. Below are a few concepts:
Interns
Brainstorm Leeway
During the period before training, approximately a week to ten days, they would be notified
of their responsibilities in a short comprehensive manual (through email). Also they would be
informed of their duties for Fun Friday and planning as a team. Before they arrive for training the
following week, they should already have an idea of what they would like to do as a project; this
allows the entire team to loosely plan for the first half of the semester upon arriving, adding more
efficiency and understanding. A second meeting like this could occur at the midway point to plan
the last half of the semester and gives a chance to alter what hasn’t been working. This way there
are no abrupt changes that may throw off the flow of the general structure; less confusion for the
kids, less confusion for the staff. Also during training, they would select a meeting day that is set
from the start to occur every week or every other week. Before the end of the meeting, the group
should have a plan for week 2 done, since week 2 is for introductions and expectations; this week
could serve as a trial run that the group can use as a basis to work from while developing their
plans. Plans for the semester should be done by week 3, submitted to Mrs. Leslie and shared with
all site members.
3. INTERN AND VOLUNTEER MANGEMENT DEVONE, D. 2
The training manual mentioned would include sections on the schedule, Building Hope’s
policies, and family oriented environment (just like before) in addition to forms (ABC,
homework, fire drill, strikes records) and methods for working with more difficult children.
Inclusion for other Employees
The easiest way to further include staff would be attending staff meetings and presenting
the upcoming events. Mr. James recently mentioned wanting to include the interns during staff
meetings and I think it would make a huge difference. It would also increase the amount of
exposure the staff and student workers have with each other, increasing comradery.
Volunteers
One of the major issues this semester has been volunteers feeling like they have nothing
to do or not being as engaged as they could be. Sometimes, this is because of volunteers not
expecting the load or not intending do take on the full load that comes with volunteering with
BHCLC; in contrast, this could be a lack of instruction and communication on our part, where a
good volunteer is just lost in the daily motion rather than being lazy.
Understand the Daily happenings in the Classroom
It is essential that the volunteers be able to run a class as if they were regular team
members. Not having the same control or methods is understandable since they are volunteers
who could be inexperienced, however there are basic modes in place such as the ABC sheets,
strikes, 10 or 20 minute reading minimum and finishing homework before free time, which
should be common place. Having all volunteers, even once a week participants, on the same
page would give the children a core structure where they can expect to have to watch their
behavior and progress every day, regardless of the teacher.
Volunteer Briefing
4. INTERN AND VOLUNTEER MANGEMENT DEVONE, D. 3
On the part of the interns, work-study students and employees who have been trained, it
is our duty to fill in the volunteers using two methods. For volunteers who come early or
consistently, a meeting (similar to a short training) that fills them in on the daily happenings
before the children separate into the classrooms. This meeting would have one to two trained
workers at its head. For more sporadic volunteers, one on one briefing and occasional
observation.
Conclusion
If any of this sounds ideal I’d love to work on this as a pet project over the break. Thank you for
your consideration.
