EUTHANASIA
Every human being has that one person that they love and care about, and the last thing that they want to do is to see them in pain. However, this doesn’t give anyone a right to take that person’s life, and if you choose to do it, it doesn’t make it right. This is why this paper is going to look at euthanasia. Euthanasia also famously known as mercy killing refers to the painless and deliberate killing of a patient who is known to be suffering from an incurable as well as painful disease or who is in a coma. To some, it may look like a good way of letting their loved one rest from all the pain, but the big question is it right? When you consider all the implications on the feelings of the various people involved, it shouldn’t be a consideration at all. This paper seeks to look at the history and background of euthanasia, its status and look at it as a problem from various perspectives.
The debates concerning euthanasia and its existence range back to 5th Century BC in ancient Greece as well as Rome where there were debates concerning the ethics of euthanasia. When ether was developed, many physicians started advocating that there should be the use of anesthetics to relieve patients of their pains. In the year 1870, Samuel Williams gave the first proposition that anesthetics and morphine should be used to deliberately end the life of a patient. Since then, there have been major debates and arguments for and against euthanasia as a method of ending one’s life.
Euthanasia is illegal in most of the countries. However, some have legalized it. According to ProCon (2016), there are two kinds of euthanasia that are considered, active euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide. Most countries have made it clear that both of them are illegal and ought not to be practiced. However, some western countries, at least 8, have either legalized one or both types of practices. Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands are some of the countries that have legalized both practices. On the other hand, Canada, Finland, and Switzerland have legalized Physician Assisted Suicide. Colombia has legalized euthanasia only. This clearly shows that there just like any other argument, when it comes to euthanasia, there are those who are for it and those who are against it.
There are various problems that are associated with euthanasia as a form of ending one’s life. When we consider the social problem, we know that euthanasia has various social implications to the society at large. As much as one may say that it is one’s decision or the next of kin or whoever has the person’s power of attorney to make that decision, it is beyond just personal. When we consider the society, we also consider those physicians or doctors who will carry out the act of euthanasia. All the students who attend medical school are taught the importance of life and that they shouldn’t be involved in killing their patients

A crisis on this scale can reorder society in dramatic ways, for better or worse. For many Americans right now, the scale of the coronavirus crisis calls to mind 9/11 or the 2008 financial crisis—events that reshaped society in lasting ways, from how we travel and buy homes, to the level of security and surveillance we’re accustomed to, and even to the language we use.
A global, novel virus that keeps us contained in our homes—maybe for months—is already reorienting our relationship to government, to the outside world, even to each other. Some changes these experts expect to see in the coming months or years might feel unfamiliar or unsettling: Will nations stay closed? Will touch become taboo? What will become of restaurants?
But crisis moments also present opportunity: more sophisticated and flexible use of technology, less polarization, a revived appreciation for the outdoors and life’s other simple pleasures. No one knows exactly what will come, but here are some predictions to the unknown ways that society—government, healthcare, the economy, our lifestyles and more—will change.

Reply 1 Effects of Illness on Women's Relationships
In addition to affecting the lives of those who are ill, illnesses may also profoundly affect the spouses or partners who care for those who are ill. Anxiety and depression may increase as caregivers adjust to new realities and expectations. On the other hand, intimacy and closeness may increase as partners solidify their relationships in the face of illness. Though every relationship is unique, there are some trends that can be seen across relationships when, for instance, in a heterosexual relationship the man is the caregiver, and alternatively when the women is the caregiver. Lesbian relationships, too, are impacted when one partner is ill, sometimes in similar patterns to heterosexual relationships, and sometimes in different ways.
To prepare for this Discussion, consider how illness might affect a life partner relationship under these different relationship configurations.
Women's Health
Reply 1– Effects of Illness on Women’s Relationships
In a relationship, when one becomes very ill and requires a caregiver, it can significantly impact the relationship. In some instances, it can make the relationship stronger, however, there are many challenges from the perspective of both male and female. Alexander and Wilz (2010) state that family caregivers have to develop coping skills to deal with issues that could arise daily. Taking care of someone poses different challenges, resulting in different types of stressors so caregivers need to be conscientious of those challenges to be prepared to deal with them when they come up. Additionally, being a caregiver for a loved one can be very taxing and cumbersome, resulting in decreased mental and physical health (Alexander & Wilz, 2010).
Fekete et al. (2007) states that emotional support has a significant influence on an individual with a chronic illness. Emotional support provides a more positive outlook for an individual, which, can impact their mental state and also influence their health (Fekete et al., 2007). Additionally, caregivers or spouses of individuals with chronic illnesses are more susceptible to health implications and psychological stress, resulting from lifestyles changes, assuming the responsibilities of their loved one, limited time for social events, and most importantly, lack of self-care (Fekete et al., 2007). Fekete et al. (2007) also states that women and men differ on how they support each other and how they interpret that support.
According to Umberson et al. (2016), various factors should be considered in thinking about how individuals interpret and respond to relationships. Social contexts influence the way in which men and women deal with illness. For example, men are typically encouraged to be strong, independent, and inattentive regarding physical illness or pain, therefore men are more likely to avoid accepting or looking for help whereas women are perceived to be delicate and feeble (Umberson et al., 2016)..

Week 1 Writing Assignment:
Our Blind Spot about Guns Article by Nicholas Kristof Analysis
What is the title and author of your selected essay?
Our Blind Spot About Guns by Nicholas Kristof
What is the topic of the essay?
Guns as people’s blind spot
What is the author’s argument on the topic?
The author argues that guns has for long remained a major threat to human life since they are not
properly regulated. It is their uncontrolled use nature that leads to high rates of homicide cases
something that many people consider not true but in reality the society is negatively affected by
high presence of guns among members of society.
What evidence does the author use to present their point of view?
The author provides cases of reported homicides where guns are used and compares them with
number of motor vehicle accidents. He also demonstrates how vehicles are regulated to prevent
instances of accidents by drivers having series of rules to comply with something that is not
applied when it comes to guns.
Identify one writing strategy (rhetorical mode) the author uses to make their argument?
The author makes use of a comparing and contrasting writing strategy to show the difference in
different scenarios for people to understand how it is like and how it would be like in the case
proposed measures are put in place.
What is your position on the topic?
Guns are important for personal and public use as they help increase levels of security. However,
there should be a lot of control measures on how and when they should be used. There should be

clear penalties for abuse of guns as this would help in reducing increasing cases of gun abuse a
reality that has been ignored for long.
Do you agree or disagree with author? Why?
Yes I agree with the author because there have been many cases where licensed gun holders have
used guns wrongly leading to loss of life and no action has taken against them as they have been
able to argue that they felt that their safety was being threatened. It is hence important for gun
owners to be controlled so that they can stop risking lives of people who do not own guns.
What would you do differently if you were to present this argument? (Describe specific
elements)
The one thing I would do differently is demonstrating how events where guns are regulated human
life is much safer from the aspects of people who do not own guns and how the life of people in
general is at risk whenever there are weak and ineffective gun control measures.
Describe reasons why someone might disagree with the author’s stance?
Someone might disagree with the author’s argument since there are many other causes of death and
that gun only contributes a fraction of total number of deaths. Somebody opposing .

You are a patrol officer in a middle- to lower-class community, which is a suburb of a much larger metropolitan city. During the past 6 months, you have noticed an increase in what might be the beginning of gang activity in your community. You have begun to see gang-style graffiti painted on walls, buildings, and street signs. You have noticed that more young adults are gathering on street corners and appear to be dressing in clothing often associated with gang involvement. While no gang violence has occurred yet, you suspect it is not far away.
As discussed in your text, there are three distinct styles of policing. They are the watchman style, the legalistic style, and the service style.

clear penalties for abuse of guns as this would help in reducing increasing cases of gun abuse a
reality that has been ignored for long.

Topic Styles of PolicingYou are a patrol officer in a middle- to .docxVannaSchrader3
Topic: Styles of Policing
In a single posting, describe in detail how you would address this growing problem using
each
of the policing styles listed above. Explain which approach is best, using research to substantiate your postings, citing your sources following APA format

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Suicide Rise and The Contributing Factors
3. Suicide Rise and the Contributing Factors
Introduction
Suicide cases which implies one ending his or her own life has
been on the rise, bringing out to display weather it is
advantageous to end one's life or whether it is a disadvantage to
end one's own life. Yes, ending one's life can be advantageous
to relieve you from the stresses of this world, especially among
the old population suffering from a constant disease like
pneumonia (Curtin, Warner & Hedegaard, 2016). Besides, there
is also the con side to ending one's life, because it lives the
family, relatives and friends in suffering especially if they were
close allies to the deceased. Ending one's life imply that
someone is tired of the suffering and wants to temporarily move
away from this suffering to a whole new being away from the
problems that are giving mental torture or causing them not to
get sleep(Bachmann, 2018). For example, a case of an older
person of about 70 years, who is not immune to many diseases
hence constantly suffers from diseases such as pneumonia and
other communicable forcing them to be in and out of the
hospital, may get tired and end their life to flee the constant
pains. However, ending life may bring about children, family
and friends thrown into sufferings and pains, especially for a
breadwinner. When a family head decides to end or terminates
his life, the family that remains reap the consequences, they
lack a provider and someone to take care of them. Moreover,
suicide cases are hitting new high due to increased drug abuse
and alcohol and the rise of mental disorder cases. The increase
in substance abuse is slowly increasing suicidal cases resulting
in the reduction of population and reducing the strain on the
resources. However, it is depriving the country of useful people
who would drive the economy to an unprecedented high
economy level. Therefore the suicidal rise should be checked to
determine whether it is important or should be minimized and
stop people from losing their lives anyhow. The passage below
4. seeks to analyze the issue of the suicidal rise and the factors
that contribute to its rise.
Literature review
Suicide History
Suicidal did no start today or yesterday but can date back to
decades ago when some of the earliest occupants of the earth
committed suicide. Some early people to commit suicide include
a Greek historian named Empedocles who believed death was
transformation. He threw himself to death inside a silicon
volcano. Other early suicidal deaths were committed by Ajax
the Great who committed the act in the battlefield of the Trojan
War, and also another person was Lucretia. While some like
Aristotle condemned suicide, others like the Roman Empire
never took it as any serious offence. Aristotle argued that
suicide deprived the community of its important members,
contributing to the community's general well-being. While the
Romans took it as a serious offence whenever the accused was
accused of a capital crime or when the person is a soldier or a
slave. For them this people's deaths would not let them seize the
property from them before death, hence the only area that
paused strictness for suicide.
Fast forward to the middle age era; the church was very strict to
people who tried or committed the act of suicide and were seen
as a bad omen. The church would send away those who
contemplated or attempted a failed suicide while also ensured
that those who died from suicide would be buried at a
consecrated place away from others. Slowly perceptions of
suicide started to change during renaissance people arguing that
ending one's life will flee someone from torture inflicted on
them when alive. Many like David Hume argued that suicide
was no crime as it affected nobody. Alternatively, by the 19th
century, many people started viewing suicide as caused by
insanity and not sin as early contemplated, although it remained
illegal. Suicide was then distinguished from homicide and was
made legal around mid of the 20th century.
Terminologies
5. CDC defines and outlines the various terminologies used for
suicide in the US department. The various terminologies are
suicidal ideation which refers to thinking and planning for
suicide. The suicidal plan also refers to the thought of
contemplating bodily harm by indicating the means and timing
(Goodfellow, Kolves & De Leo, 2019). Besides, there is a
suicide attempt which is the act of causing bodily injuries to
oneself to die from the act. In case one does not die from such
an act, it is referred to as an attempted suicide. Another term is
the suicide crisis, often referred to as a situation in which one is
serious about committing bodily harm to themselves and often
calls for serious intervention from the medical department.
Some other terminology included in the CDC is suicidal
behaviour, which refers to some related suicide, such as
attempted suicide. One behaves in a unique way different from
what people are used to. Also, risk factors refer to the
psychological or environmental factors that may cause people to
develop a given disorder that may lead to suicide. Besides, we
have resilience which is an inbuilt capacity for a human being
that enables them to develop mental disorders protection.
Moreover, we have postvention, which is the act of caring for
those affected by suicidal attempt or even suicidal death and
responding in situations of suicidal. Other terms include means
which refer to the act or how a person intends to commit the
suicidal act. At the same time, the method refers to the
techniques used in committing the deadly act. Lastly, the
protective factors refer to the factors and situations that ensure
the likeliness of suicide is very minimal and hence promote a
life free from suicidal thoughts and attempts.
Pros and Cons of suicide
It is always said anything that has an advantage also got a
disadvantage. Therefore as much as committing suicide may be
negative as it ends someone's life, it has the positive side. Some
of the pros of suicide may include no more pain (Racine, 2018).
There are many diseases that can make someone be in and out of
6. the hospital, causing unnecessar y pains. In such situations, one
may decide to end life to go away from the pains, and it is a
plus for them. Other situations include those working as slaves
who may be subjected to psychological torture and hence ending
their life may be the solution to the constant torture and
suffering. Besides, suicide also leads to a decrease in
population and reduces the pressure on the available resources.
However, the disadvantage of committing suicide will be
sufferings inflicted on the family of the deceased. Situations,
where the bereaved is the head of the family, may results in
sufferings and depression by the people left behind. Lacking
someone to provide for their needs and take care of them as
used to be, may lead to children dropping out of school. Some
getting into drug trafficking and other forms of chaotic means
of getting money. Besides suicide, it deprives the nation of
important people in the society whom it would have been the
main change required in society.
Conclusion
The literature review has opened eyes on the analysis of the
suicidal rise and factors that led to the rise, from tracking the
history of the rise, terminologies used and the pros and cons of
committing suicide.
