He spoke their language comfortably , delivering perhaps one of the most well-written speeches in recent memory . “Google today has made teachers less aweinspiring and grandparents more idle. Twitter has turned everyone into a reporter.“ “Status that now matters is not whether you are awake or asleep but whether you are online or offline,“ he went on. There was a rumor he might speak in Hindi, forcing the lag of translation, but he chose English the language of the aspirational class he so wants to lead. The audience, whose total worth would be astronomical, lapped it up along with the salad. The buzz was that Apple CEO Tim Cook might be considering manufacturing in India. Cook recalled in a private meeting with Modi that Apple's founder Steve Jobs had got his inspiration from India.

Modi's rush through Silicon Valley had clearly been well planned by the PMO and the Indian Embassy they got the big names, the big names said nice things, and the big names showed enthusiasm for Modi's bag ful of new initiatives to leapfrog India into the next stage of development. Jacobs announced two new initiatives for India: a $150 million fund to fuel Indian startups and a programme to “Design in India.“ He said there was more internet traffic on mobile phones in India than in any other country. India is the fastest-growing market for all the things that excite Silicon Valley. Pichai said India was the fastest growing startup nation in the world with 3,000 startups, from Zomato and Hike to Flipkart. “We share the prime minister's vision,“ he said, giving Modi's efforts a thumping endorsement. Nadella said Microsoft would be operating cloud systems out of India by next week. He recalled a heartwarming story of going to a school in Kenya where the kids were interacting with children in a school in Andhra Pradesh via Skype.

The PM was very interested in the battery as he chatted with Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO and a legend in these lands. At $3,000, it is expensive but a large order? “We are using technology to impart scale and speed to development,“ Modi said, recounting how tribal women in remote parts of India were taking photos on their phones and “downloading“ them. Building “Iways are as important as highways.“ Infosys Chief Executive officer Vishal Sikka and Times Internet CEO Satyan Gajwani were also present at the event. By the end it wasn't clear who was wooing whom Modi courting the Valley people or the Valley folks wooing the prime minister of the fastestgrowing market.
