BPI group’s Executive Employment Trends Report offers visibility into the
current executive job market. We are committed to quality and results in our
career transition programs, and believe that keeping a careful eye on trends
in the market is an important way to ensure that we meet the needs of our
career transition clients. The findings of this report are based on landing
data collected on our Executive Transition Services (ETS) clients who
completed their job search in 2018, and compares selected data to findings
from 2017.
The Executive Employment Trends Report includes analysis of the following
executive employment trends:
– Average length of the executive job search
– How the length of the job search is impacted by various factors,
including:
• Base Salary Level
• Education Level
• Age

Key Takeaways
Higher-paid, higher-
educated executives
are landing
significantly faster
than the average of the
last 5 years and year
over year comparisons,
in their next roles. This
reflects a full-labor
economy with record-
low unemployment
rates, and
commensurately high
demand for high-level
talent.
In a tight labor
market, our data
shows no evidence
of age discrimination
in landing rates,
shifting commonly
held misperceptions
about the role of age
in hiring.
Consistent with
previous findings,
networking is the
overwhelming means
(68%) by which
executive candidates
source new
opportunities.
A majority of
executives surveyed
reported that their
salaries were the
same or better than
their previous
position, without any
other qualitative
assessment.

Services clients, representing
65% men and 35% women.
All executives surveyed
completed their transition with
BPI group in 2018.

Length of Job Search
In 2018, executives spent an average of 4.6 months in the job search. This was significantly less
time than the national average of 5.7 months for those in executive roles, and 5.2 months for the
general U.S. workforce, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in January, 2019.
Salary at the new job:
• 54% rated the compensation at their new job as better than that of their
previous job
• 6% rated the compensation at their new job as the same as that of their
previous job

  • 2. 2 BPI group’s Executive Employment Trends Report offers visibility into the current executive job market. We are committed to quality and results in our career transition programs, and believe that keeping a careful eye on trends in the market is an important way to ensure that we meet the needs of our career transition clients. The findings of this report are based on landing data collected on our Executive Transition Services (ETS) clients who completed their job search in 2018, and compares selected data to findings from 2017. The Executive Employment Trends Report includes analysis of the following executive employment trends: – Average length of the executive job search – How the length of the job search is impacted by various factors, including: • Base Salary Level • Education Level • Age We look forward to continuing to share the latest trends in executive employment.   • 3. 3 Key Takeaways Higher-paid, higher- educated executives are landing significantly faster than the average of the last 5 years and year over year comparisons, in their next roles. This reflects a full-labor economy with record- low unemployment rates, and commensurately high demand for high-level talent. In a tight labor market, our data shows no evidence of age discrimination in landing rates, shifting commonly held misperceptions about the role of age in hiring. Consistent with previous findings, networking is the overwhelming means (68%) by which executive candidates source new opportunities.   • 4. 4 About Our Executive Transition Services Clients About the executives: This report is based on survey responses from a sample of BPI group’s Executive Transition Services clients, representing 65% men and 35% women. All executives surveyed completed their transition with BPI group in 2018.   • 7. 7 Executive Employment Trends Annual Report: 2018 Length of Job Search In 2018, executives spent an average of 4.6 months in the job search. This was significantly less time than the national average of 5.7 months for those in executive roles, and 5.2 months for the general U.S. workforce, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in January, 2019.
