Gender and Power Relations in Browning s Porphria s Lover and My Last Duchess
Robert Browning provides a critical view of gender and power relations in his dramatic
monologues Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess. The dramatic monologue, as S.S. Curry has
written, reveals the struggle in the depths of the soul (11). Browning delves into the minds of
characters to show their conceptions of women and ideas of power. He explores the mental
processes of the characters, and invites readers to question societal ideas of power and gender. The
mental pathologies of the speakers is emphasized, which forces readers to examine the sanity of
their own notions of gender dynamics.
In the Victorian age, the idea of separate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In men, in general, sexual desire is inherent and spontaneous whereas in the other sex, the desire is
dormant, if not non existent, till excited (457). Greg s terminology is extremely power laden.
Spontaneous has the connotation of energy and activity, whereas dormant and victim imply
inactivity. An important concept is the assumption that men, the coarser sex, act on women, the
weaker sex (457).
Like prostitutes, the women in Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess also violate traditional
gender roles. For that reason, the men take it upon themselves to bring the power relation back to
that of convention, where men are bearers of power and have control in relationships. The means
by which this power reversion is accomplished, however, are subject to examination.
Foucault s theories are helpful in understanding Porphyria s Lover. In the poem, the male
character, who is the narrator, perceives himself to elicit a confession from the woman. Inherent in
the idea of confession are power dynamics. Confession is ...a ritual that unfolds within a power
relationship, for one does not confess without the presence (or virtual presence) of a partner who is
not simply the interlocutor but the authority who requires the confession... (Foucault 61).
Confession is a socially constructed process in which it is necessary to have a mediator as well as a
confessor.

Fires of Jubilee Pt.4 In The Fires of Jubilee Nat Turner s Fierce Rebellion: Stephen Oates gives an
account of the brief but deadly slave revolt in and around Southampton, Virginia. His controlling
theme is that of religion and the profound influence that it had on the development of Nat Turner s
charismatic persona and his rationale for engaging in a project of deliberate murder of people who
had at least in the context of slavery as a given of Turner s experience, treated him quite decently.
The effects of Nat Turner s rebellion were profound. The insurrection of Nat Turner was
inspiration for all slaves, even if just 60 whites were killed to the 140 blacks. I am ... Show more

Books are filled with stories of colonial resistance such as the Boston Tea Party, the burning of
effigies, and the Revolutionary War. There are many stories of Daniel Shay s rebellion against
the young federal government. Yet one story that receives little attention is the story of Nat
Turner s rebellion. This being one of the first rebellions and acts of abolition of slavery you
would think that this amazing story would be in every textbook throughout the world. His story
is an excellent example of how some slaves fought back and resisted their oppressors. Overall, I
was extremely impressed with this work. I think Stephen Oates was truly interested in what he
was researching, as this is reflected in the book. He makes important the inhumane treatment and
crude conditions that a slave had to endure under their control. His skill as a writer is excellent,
and he does a very good job bringing the reader into the story. Oates believes that Nat Turner s
rebellion was a critical turning point in American history, especially Southern history. I was
especially impressed with his ability to describe what was happening. The detail fills the mind
with a well drawn picture of the scenery, smells, attitudes, and needs of the blacks and whites of
this part of the South. Lastly I would say that this book is not only enjoyable, but also an important
historical work that is helpful in understanding race relations of the past and

Campbell s Five-Viewpoints
The five paragraph formula is a destructive formula that cuts the blood flow of creativity from
students. As Campbell essentially argues in his paper, Beyond the Five Paragraph Essay. Campbell
s main idea that he reiterates and stresses over and over again; is that the five paragraph formula
doesn t properly allow students to express themselves with their own unique voice through writing.
The alternatives to the five paragraph formula are better suited for students as they allow students to
use as he stated, their authentic, authoritative voices.
Campbell sets the scene by showing how some teachers defended the five paragraph formula when
he was doing a presentation on common core standards. Campbell s main reason for writing the ...

Campbell did a great job in laying out and showing the main reasons and arguments against the five
paragraph formula. However, in terms of his essay, he neglected to mention a few things that
would ve further enriched his essay. One of the critical aspects he neglected to mention that I
would add would be mainly statistics instead of heavily relying on anecdotal evidence. For
example, on page 62 as he is discussing the key issues with the formula he stated, it doesn t
ensure success on standardized tests or in college. I would ve added a statistics further enriching
the say by getting his point across and having a somewhat of a shock factor. A shock factor
would ve really made his point stand out and would not just have the essay rely on anecdotal
evidence but a mixture of scientific and anecdotal evidence. Moreover, I would ve also included a
more sound concluding paragraph. I felt like the last paragraph left a somewhat sour taste in my
mouth; I would ve added now that they are able to write better essays their writing has drastically
improved and really highlighted the overall difference in quality between using different formulas. I
believe that would ve enriched the essay and left a more sound concluding paragraph with a much
sweeter taste.
From the get go Campbell s voice was established and had a booming presence throughout. He also
had his ideas shine through and not get muffled when referencing other people s works; truly

The Wind Image in the Eolian Harp and Ode to the West Wind
Romanticism is a literary and artistic movement which takes its inspiration from nature and creates
a new perception of the world. Seeking for the essence of the nature made Romantic poets more
related to the essence of the human being and its natural existence in the universe. These new
conceptualized ideas created innovation for literature and especially for poetry. (Norton)

30 years of preparation time. Two years later,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Ode to the West Wind, there are three parts in the poem that describe the wind s impacts
on the earth, air and the sea. First of all, in the first section, wind represents both preserver and
destroyer qualities. It destroys the nature and kills it in the autumn. It carries the dead leaves to
the graveyard. However, while doing this, it also creates a new life because in the spring, the
seeds which were carried by the wind to the graveyard will regenerate again and they come to the
life. In this poem wind has a function like a creator. It can make not only the catastrophic things
but also being a life giver. On the other hand, in the Eolian Harp, the duty of the wind does not
have vitally importance on the nature. The sound of the harp gives the erotic voice to the
listeners. Its function is making joy of people and wind provides its happening. Therefore, it can
be said that while in Ode to the West Wind wind has a superior power on the nature, in the Eolian
Harp, it creates more individual effect to the nature. Also, in Ode to the West Wind when the
West Wind blows, it seems to be singing a funeral song about the dying year and the sky is covered
with a dome of clouds looks like a sepulchre. In other respects, harp s voice gives a celestial and
paradisiacal sound in the Eolian Harp. It makes more relief and pure voice but the other wind gives

The Importance Of Choosing A College
Choosing what to do for the rest of your life and which school to attend is a difficult decision at
the age of eighteen. Throughout your high school career, teachers warn students how hard
choosing a college will be. Teachers prepare the students for this time in their life, but as the day
comes, the decision is not easier. Many factors are taken into consideration when choosing a college
. Factors such as cost, programs offered, and living arrangements are considered. Universities are
alike in certain ways, such as aspects on campus. Although universities are similar, they may differ
in location. One universitymay be closer to a student s hometown, which could be one of the
attracting factors of that school to the student. In order to understand and view the important
aspects each school has to offer, it is crucial to compare and contrast Northern Illinois University
and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to distinguish which school offers more to suit my
wants and needs as a student entering college. While deciding on a college, cost can be a big
factor in the decision that is being made. Cost is important because the student will be paying off
that debt for many years after the college degree has been received. Most students are unable to pay
off the large expense that college brings up front, so student loans must be taken out. With student
loans, there is interest. If the student attends an expensive college and does not start out in their
career making a lot

Primary Causes Of Europe s Age Of Exploration And Discovery
Europe s age of exploration and discovery began around 1453 when the Ottoman Turks conquered
Constantinople, which resulted in the fall of the Byzantine Empire. This conquest cut off most
European access to this area, severely limiting trade with the Middle East, especially China and
India. Furthermore, Venice and the Ottoman Empireestablished a monopoly over trade, which
irritated Europeand sparked their desire to reconnect with the East and restore direct trade relations
with Asia. Europe s desire to discover alternate trade routes in order to participate in Asian silk and
spice trades was ultimately a primary cause for European exploration and conquest during the 15th
and 16th centuries. Secondarily, Europe s intention to expand and spread Christianity was also a
cause of European exploration and conquest in the 15th and 16th centuries.
The primary cause of European exploration and conquest during the 15th and 16th centuries was
Europe s strong desire to discover new trade passageways to Asia. In 1419, the city of Venice
negotiated a dominating trade deal with the Ottoman empire, resulting in the Venetian Ottoman
trade monopoly. This led to exploration because the trade deal meant that European nation states
such as Spain and Portugal could only buy goods from Venetian merchants (Venice was the
intermediator between Europe and the Indian Ocean), and this motivated Europeans to endeavor to
circumvent Venice and the Ottoman Empire in hopes of reaching India to buy

Saint Sernin Of Toulouse And Notre Dame Of Paris Essay
Saint Sernin of Toulouse and Notre Dame of Paris
When one thinks of St. Sernin and Notre Dame, one tends to think of two beautiful cathedrals, not
to churches that portray two totally different styles of architecture. Those two styles are, of course,
Romanesque in St. Sernin and the Gothic style of Notre Dame. Some characteristics that these two
buildings share include quest for height, basic floor plan, and artistic flair. The period of
Romanesque architecture, which lasted roughly from 1050 A.D. to 1150
A.D., concentrated mainly on achieving massive proportions, rounded vaulted bays, the round arch,
the wall buttress, cylindrical apse and chapels, and towers.
Early Gothic architecture, which began in 1144 with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cathedrals were designed to draw vast numbers of people them, therefore they were built so
that one might not only come to worship, but to see the beauty of the structure. Even to this day
people are in awe of these building, and come more to stare at their beauty than to worship God.
Regardless of how many likeness we are able to find between the
Romanesque style of St. Sernin and the Gothic style of Notre Dame, it is the difference that make
them so amazing. In my opinion there are three major differences in Early Gothic and
Romanesque styles of architecture. These are the differences in buttresses, the use of towers, and
the use of windows. From the exterior, one of the first differences one would notice is the use of
flying buttresses in Gothic architecture. Where in Romanesque buildings, standard buttresses would
have been used, the buttresses on Gothic buildings were detached from the building. This created a
more open essence to the church and in my opinion a more spiritual look. As far as the towers go, in
Romanesque structure the towers were used as a more central figure, while in
Gothic construction, the towers were used more as an entrance structure. Most importantly though,
is the different use of light. In Romanesque structures, as is obvious in St. Sernin, it was realized
that in a structure as big as a cathedral, much light was

When I Saw Me
Walking out of the Museum of Fine Arts on a spring night in 2013, I began to think about where
my home really was. I had just left the Boston Palestine Film Festival, where the screening of
When I Saw You by the Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir had really stood out to me. The
movie was from the perspective of a young Palestinian refugee named Tarek living in a camp in
Jordan. Tarek goes on a journey to return to his home in Palestine. After watching the film, I had an
unshakeable feeling that my real home was in Palestine and felt a strong urge to return to the land
of my ancestors.
I developed a deeper connection to my Palestinian heritage after the film festival. These feelings
were confusing to me at first. There I was, living in the United States, feeling a powerful
sentimental attachment towards a land I ve never set foot in thousands of miles away. As a young
kid, having ties to so many places made it hard for me to develop a strong cultural identity. My ...

his childhood mesmerized me. He told me about growing up in the small village of Suhmata,
helping his parents in the fields, and playing with his friends on the farm. His stories inspired
images in my mind of Palestine as a paradise with endless rows of olive and fig trees. Before I

Analysis Of We Real Cool
We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks is a lyrical poem that tells a story of teenage rebellion.
Although the poem is relatively short, it packs an extremely powerful message about youth.
Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American
consciousness. During the time in which the poem was written, many teens, especially young
African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. At
first glance, it appears this poem is a mere description of misunderstood young adults who are
enjoying their youth. However, with further analysis, it is made clear that this poem talks about
much more than that. While it is obvious that this poem is about rebellious youths, it is also
about self identity and the dangers of herd mentality. Herd mentality describes how people
follow and adapt the behaviors of certain groups. Herd mentality is in no way new; moreover,
most people are subject to its effects. However, herd mentality becomes dangerous when a group
has enough influence to dictate an individual s way of thinking. When an individual is desperate
to find a place to belong, they will most likely follow the crowd even if they know that they are
participating in something immoral; this can be seen in We Real Cool.
In the opening lines of the poem, the reader is introduced to the subjects The Pool Players. Seven
at the Golden Shovel (line 1 2), they are the we in the poem. It becomes apparent to the reader that
the speaker is one of the seven pool players mentioned.
The speakers tone in the poem is very prideful and defiant, but at the same time, it is filled with
uncertainty. This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that have a steady
meter that gives the poem a jazz like quality to the poem which further emphasizes the speaker s
nonchalant attitude and their disdain for the establishment.
The speaker contempt for the system is shown in the line We real cool. We Left school. (line3 4)
The speaker feels misunderstood by society and yearns to find a place for themselves in the
world. The danger in this is that the speaker of a poem gives up on conventional means of
education in search for a place where they can belong, which

Physics Of Bowling Essay
Physics Of Bowling
The one thing that interests me is bowling. I have been playing all my life and after a whole
semester and a half of being in Mr. Fetter s class, I realized that everything has physics in it. One
night after going bowling with my girlfriend(s) I wondered why when I hit the first pin, only
seven went down and thus I lost the game. So, I got on the Internet and found a lot of articles and
web sites talking about the physics of bowling. A lot of the web sites were brief descriptions. A
guy named Paul Durbin wrote many articles on physics. One of his articles he discussed was about
bowling. He mentioned one thing we already went over this semester in physics class. But it seems

You may let go of the bowling ball at a constant speed, but its velocity is not constant because of
the change in direction every instant. The ball s state of motion is changing. It s accelerating! Now
you can see why it is important to know the difference between speed and velocity, and why
acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity, rather than speed. Acceleration is like
velocity, its directional. If you were to change your arms speed or direction, or even both, you
change velocity and you accelerate. Just remember acceleration = change of velocity/time interval.
The one thing that s cool about pool is that wooden alley that s always shiny. The alley is made
out of fine wood and is usually shined up. The alley seems to be the friction that slows a ball
down. Even when a single force is applied to an object, it is usually not the only force affecting
the motion. This is because of friction. Friction is a force that always acts in a direction to oppose
motion. When you let go of the ball one way, the air resistance is coming the opposite direction.
Let go of the bowling ball and you can see it in motion. If an object moves, the by virtue of that
motion it is capable of doing work. It has energy in motion, or kinetic energy. The kinetic energy
of an object depends on the mass of the object as well as its speed.
KE = ВЅmvВІ.
When you let go of that bowling ball, you do work on it to give it speed to get that nice rotation. The

Comparing The American Dream In Death Of A Salesman By...
Arthur Miller does a great job of portraying the American Dream for what it really is, a false idea,
a concept, that is nearly impossible to reach. The ВЁdream during the time when the book was
written was freedom and opportunity for all, but this is contrasted when Willy Loman is struck
with truth about reality and how he believes that being well liked and working hard is all that is
needed to achieve The Dream. The fact of the matter is that the American Dreamis unrealistic,
creates an artificial personality, and will ultimately bring some to the end. The idea that the

Willy let other people s opinions take over his life which ended up leading to his downfall. He
was so focused on the idealistic aspects of life, such as popularity and good business, that he
tore himself down when The Dream didn t seem within reach. Willy uses his suicide attempts to
exhibit how beaten down he really is from trying so hard to create his ideal of a perfect life.
Linda takes notice of this when the insurance inspector comes by after his crash and tells her
that, All these accidents in the last year weren t weren t accidents. (Miller, 58) In the end, the
pressure of trying to get everything in his life together grew too great, and the hope of the
American Dream is what lead Willy Loman to believe his only way out was death. The
corruption of the American Dream has lead Willy to the conclusion that he was a failure. He
figured that since he had not accomplished his goals and had nothing to show for his life s work,
that there was no point in living. This further shows how The Dream has created a broken society
in which no one would ever accept that they could reach the dream so it was easier to stop

The Fate Of Peking Opera Essay
What is art and what is politics? Art is a range of human activities that express their emotions and
culture though a visual way such as painting and performing. Politics refer to some decisions
made by government in order to achieve governance. (Wikipedia) For Farewell My Concubine,
Peking Opera is the most obvious representative of art. The fate of Peking Operareflects the

Peking Opera kept relatively stable with politics and historical influences to the premodern age.
Since modern times, Peking Opera was slaved to politics and historical influences gradually,

Future Teach Summary And Analysis
One of the tips I plan to use for myself as a future teach is To create a safe environment, show
that you are human (Koch, 2013, p 173). This is a very important tip for me to use because as a
teacher we always want to make sure that our students feel safe and that as their teacher we want
to keep them safe. The second tip I could use is Who are the student? What types of homes,
apartments, or other forms of housing arrangements do they live in (Koch,2013, p 173). This is
another important tip to up hold as a future teacher because it is important to have a relationship
with your students, but to also learn a little bit about them everyday. The third tip I could use as a
future teacher is Offer Choices and be flexible (Connell, 2013).

The Sound And The Fury Analysis
In The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner the representation of populations with inter family
conflict is expressed through the differing character explanations in their designated sections. The
novel provides an insight to the mind and memory comprehension of different mental capacities;
however, how and why is a social group represented in a particular way? The Sound and the Fury is
divided into four specific sections that are devoted to the minds of four different characters,
specifically Benjamin, Quentin, Jason, and the unknown chapter. The first chapter is Benjamin s
chapter, this chapter is spent mainly shifting from the presenttimeand the past. Faulkner utilized
Benjamin s different mindset to provide the reader with an accurate thought pattern. This constant
shift allows for the reader to connect to Benjamin s understanding and experiences. The second
chapter belongs to Quentin, this chapter gives the insight of Quentin s life experiences and the
causes of his imminent death. Faulkner once again switches from present to past in this chapter;
however, the past memories connect to the ending of his chapter where he ends his life. The third
chapter is from the viewpoint of Jason and all of the problems that he is left with from the actions
of his siblings. The final chapter is neither devoted to just one person or to all problems of the
family, instead the final chapter encapsulates the hardships that the family faces as a whole.

Reaction Paper About Puppetry
I.Introduction
Puppetry is an arts genre in which the objects created are made in such ways to resemble the real
life form and character of things. But what defines a puppet?
A puppet play can be as simple as a girl who picks up her favourite figurines and arranged them
around her table pretending to have an afternoon tea party. Any inanimate object that is
characterized and put in a scenario, could be categorized as a puppet.
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a puppet is a doll that is moved by putting your
hand inside it or by pulling strings or wires that are attached to it . Based on this explanation, we
can see that a puppet is different from other figurines because they are made for control and
movement.

Some companies are well accomplished and are well known in public, such as the Avenue Q, and
the Bread and Puppet show. Some of the others are performing traditionally and were subsidised by
the government for they are labelled as a part of national heritage that attracts the foreign tourists
attention, such is the Water Puppet Theatre Company in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Robin Ruizendaal (2009) stated that there is a steady decline in the interest of traditional puppetry
since the arrival of home television. And a lot of puppet theatre companies disappeared as their
opportunities decreased. As a result, some puppet companies tried to blend their traditional art with
a touch of modernity in terms of music and lighting. However, Ruizendaal also stated that he
expects more companies to disappear in the upcoming years, and the survivors being the well

Increased prices of food, food shortages, and layoffs fueled the anger that Indonesians felt. Because
of the few wealthy Chinese business owners, indigenous Indonesians felt that the Chinese people
controlled the wealth in Indonesia. During these riots, business and homes owned by Chinese
people were destroyed as well as a majority of Chinatown in the capital city of Jakarta. In addition
to property damage, Chinese women were a target for brutal rapes and murders. (Turner, 2007)

David Hume s Definition Of Free Will
What is free will? The general concept of free will is the ability to make choices of your own
without anyone or anything impeding them which, consequently, makes you morally responsible.
Free will, however, is non existent. This is explained with the theory of determinism and
solidified via hard determinism. Our actions and behavior can be traced to our desires and beliefs
which are directly caused by our genetics and environment. There are many stances and arguments
against this idea but ultimately do not dissuade against it. There are many beliefs as to what free will
is, and many have tried to establish its meaning. David Hume believes it is the ability to act on
your beliefs and desires and as your beliefs and desires change, so does your behavior. The
problem with Hume s definition is that those with compulsory disorders and addictions have
free will according to that definition. Harry Frankfurt believes that if first and second order
desires are in agreement then you have free will. The problem with Frankfurt s definition is that
the addicts that do not have a conflicting order of desires have free will according to the
definition and those who are weak willed do not have free will. The general explanation of free
will discussed in the introduction is what will be used, seeing that the ones explained have their

for adaptation, to create solutions to problems created by the harshness of its environment so it can

reevaluates its environment, possible outcomes, benefits, and, depending on the capacity of the
individual, makes the necessary changes to its mindset to maintain an orderly life. This is not a

Karl Marx And Freidrich Engels
In August of 1844, 26 year old Karl Marx and 23 year old Freidrich Engels met in Paris for an
aperitif at the CafГ© de la Regence an old meeting place of Voltaire and Diderot. Their ensuing
discourse lasted ten intense days and resulted in a lifelong friendship. This transformative
relationship is evident in the publishing of The Communist Manifesto (1848) during a period of
widespread European revolution. Although Marx and Engels agreed that revolution is justified to
create a Communist society, their difference of opinion on how that revolution should occur is
compelling. Marx s vision of revolution was limited to challenging the bourgeoisie through political
and economic means, while Engels vision involved calculated military action.... Show more content

Engels occupied himself with military affairs as a writer, analyst, and critic. Woven throughout all

of our questions with just one push of a button. People are so engulfed in their technological
devices that most they don t even realize how harmful they can be. It can cause a variety of issues
including diseases, mental and physical issues, and bodily functions start to degrade.
Is the use of modern day technology harmful to one s health? Mental and physical health is
worsening because of modern day technology. Studies show that constant exposure to screens
changes the neural circuitry of developing brains, leading to shorter attention spans, stunted social
skills and a heightened ability to multitask (Gibson). Physical effects of technology can be
blemishes caused by your phone. Staring at your phone all day can wreck your spine, WiFi

How Did The Renaissance Contribute To The Development Of...
Medicine has become so advanced in the previous centuries that it is a wonder how the medical
discoveries of today have been fueled by those made during the Renaissance. As the mindset of
those living in Europe during that time changed from religion to self discovery, medical research
began to expand and grow to a more scientific approach. Though several were unable to read, they
became more aware of themselves and humanity compared to their earlier religious views on life,
causing them to take a closer look at the human anatomy. During the English Renaissance,
physicians began to advance the scientific study of medicineleading to the development of modern
medical practices, and making a more profound impact than previous eras.

The citizens of today are living well beyond their fifties, and some are even living past their
nineties. As more and more citizens began to discover different aspects of life, their approach to
medicine began to change as it neared the end of the Medieval Era.
Though the Church still controlled most hospitals, physicians began to research and experiment
with human anatomy. Before, dissections would be made using animals instead of humans. Soon
their practices were dispelled by a physician, Andreas Vesalius. Vesalius conducted his own
anatomical dissections on human cadavers and found that Galen s teaching [...] did not always
apply to humans (Shane 26). At the time, dissecting a human was against the word of God, to
do so would be unholy. The Church began to reconsider after Vesalius findings but they still did
not allow the dissection of God fearing bodies. Instead, they allowed for the use of criminal
bodies once they were executed, or even while they were still alive as a source of torture (
History of Medicine 2011). Though some may see the practice as inhumane, it opened up many
windows for physicians, giving them a chance to go against the Church but still being able to live
with the word of God.
During the early modern period, hospitals in Europe s urban centers [...] came under the control of
nonreligious groups[...] At the same time, more positive ideas of keeping a person s good health

The Importance Of Hunger In Night By Elie Wiesel
Hunger can cause the human body to make conclusions that they would not have on a full
stomach. In Night by Elie Wiesel, he proves the point numerous times. Elie among others loses
sight of his ethics due to human nature, needing food. During the Holocaust, the prisoners in
concentration camps would risk their lives for an extra crust of bread or ration of soup. The
captives of the Holocaust had to acclimate to their surroundings and do anything they could for
food. The need for energy can cause a human to make ignorant decisions, thus allowing for a loss
of their personal values. Scientifically, you should not make long term decisions while hungry.
Students at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden studied if it is smart to make a decision
when you are ravenous. A hormone that is made in the gastrointestinal tract, called ghrelin
enhanced their study. Ghrelin is released when your body is searching for food as energy. When
you are no longer hungry, the manufacturing of ghrelin halts. Ghrelin is also associated with drug
and alcohol intake. The researchers at the University of Gothenburg examined rats. Yes, rats are
not humans, but they can display human like behaviors. When an extra amount of ghrelin was
inserted into the rat, they would go against their regular impulses to gain a quick amount of sugar
instead of waiting a little bit longer for a larger, more substantial prize. A very much known phrase
is you should never go food shopping while you are hungry. We all have

Women Are The Ones Who Handle Household Chores
Always women are the ones who handle the household chores
Household chores like doing the laundry, cleaning the utensils, taking care of children and making
food is always done by women. If both, husband and wife are working, it is always the woman
doing the domestic work. But this is not always true. This is in fact a gender stereotype which has
existed since many years. Maybe not all men or fathers do household chores, but many do.
According to Catherine Rampell, a writer for The New York Times newspaper, on an average day,
66.6% men and 85% women report doing some sort of household activity.
Almost everybody believe in this stereotype. Even if a man is sharing household work with his
spouse or any other female in the house, his image is presented as if he does nothing. Even if he
is contributing little, he is at least doing something, and something is definitely better than
nothing. No man s conscious would allow him to see his wife or any female in the house do all
the work in the house alone. Even if a man is going out for groceries, it is not considered a
household work by the female, just because he did not contribute to do the work in the house.
Women tend to see the results instead of the work done to get those particular results. If men are
doing the dishes, it is considered nothing because they are just rinsing them and putting them in the
dish washer, which is an easy job. But it takes time to do it. Men are using up their time, in which
they relax, to do the

John Galt Is The Mysterious Man
John Galt is many people at once. He is the mysterious man alluded to in a pessimistic rhetorical
question, the inventor and the terminator of the motor, the second assistant bookkeeper, and the
ominous destroyer. Galt is extremely unwavering and determined in his adherence to the Morality
of Reason; he knows exactly who he is and what he lives for. Paradoxically, the other characters of
Atlas Shruggedwould be hard pressed to come to a consensus on who he is. Galt s existence means
very different things to the general public, to the men of the mind, to Dagny Taggart, to Jim
Taggart, and to Dr. Robert Stadler in the novel. Their numerous and sometimes conflicting
definitions taken together serve to paint a comprehensive picture of the man that John Galtreally is.
From the very first page of Atlas Shrugged, Galt s identity is shrouded in mystery; the question
who is John Galt? is on everyone s lips (1). For those who utter it, this question is an indirect
summation of all that is wrong with the world. Whenever an unfavorable situation arises, logical
problem solving is rejected in favor of this verbal equivalent of a shrug. This phrase conveys the
hopelessness of the masses, the ambiguity of their values, and their inability to find fault with
themselves, all of which prompts the subconscious transfer of responsibility to a third party through
a question with no answer. Ironically, the burden of the impractical ideal these people subscribe to

With the problem of World War I, women had to band together and become strong to help defend
the nation while the men went to war. Women s new role on the home front was that many women

However unlike the US, Hofstede indicates the Mexico has a very high degree of uncertainty
avoidance , which means that its people are very orthodox and rigid in their beliefs; there is
usually no tolerance for new innovations or ideas. The remaining nations, Japan, South Korea and
Taiwan also share some of the same characteristics as Mexico, so Hofstede characterizes them as

Organizational Culture
In terms of Costco s organizational culture itself, Costco refuses to look at itself as a big Wall

Similarities And Differences Between Octavian And Han China
The Han (206 BCE 220 CE) established their rule in China after a power struggle between
regional leaders following the fall of the Qin dynasty. Liu Bang, a commander from the Han
region, established himself as the leader of China in 206 BCE. The Roman empire (31 BCE 476
CE) emerged in a similar manner. Octavian, the grandnephew of Julius Caesar, emerged
victorious after a civil war in Rome caused by the assassination of Caesar in 31 BCE. Religion
played a part in consolidating the rule of both of these leaders. Liu Bang consolidated his rule via
the Mandate of Heaven which made him a link between the heavens and the people. Octavian was
given the title Augustus by the Senate. The name is associated with religion and it implies that the
beholder is divine or semi divine. Liu Bang and Octavian were not the first to introduce
centralization to their respective empires. The Han followed the footsteps of the Qin empire and
Augustus followed after Caesar s centralized government structure. They both organized and
administered their government by building upon the government structure of their predecessor. As
a result they both ruled in a centralized way with some key differences. A similarity in technique of
imperial administration between Han China and Imperial Rome is that both maintained and
administered their empire by using roads for communication and transportation. A difference is that
in Rome, conquered land was commonly ruled by elites who obtained it by purchase or

Leadership Self Assessment Of The Field Of Nursing Leadership
Leadership Self Assessment
In the field of nursing leadership is critical within the units and nursing practice. However, in the
healthcare feel we may find ourselves interacting with different types of leaders. Upon completion
of my leadership self assessment, I was found to be a Participative, (democratic) type leader. To
understand what this means the individual must understand that there are three main types of
leadership styles. There is the Authoritarian, (autocratic) leader, participative, (democratic) leader,
and Delegative, (laissez faire). In alignment with theses leadership styles, are leadership and
management theories. It is also known that certain leadership styles excel in specific work
environments. The health care field involves organization, planning and implementing changes.
Therefore, the job of a leader can be very complex.
Upon completion of my leadership self assessment. It was determined by a strong indicator of
40 points, that I am a Participative Style leader. My second place scoring of 31 was in the
Delagative, (laissez fair) style of leadership. Coming in last was the authoritarian leader. The
type of leadership style that I exhibit is also known as a democratic leader. A democratic leader is
known for being very people oriented. The democratic leader encourages input from their peers,
and does so with an open mind. Often decisions under this leadership seem to occur at a much

computer was built in 1946, the technology was utilized to help people with mathematical
calculations, problem solving, and could even run small simple simulations while only taking up
1,000 square feet (Bestofmedia). Prior to the 1950 s, vacuum tubes had been used in all
computers to indicate on or off for processing. In the early 1950 s transistors which used less
energy, produced less heat, and were more reliable swept the computer field, making vacuum tubes

Taking a Look at GГјnter Blobel
GГјnter Blobel was born on May 21, 1936 in a small Silesian village in Waltersdorf, Germany,
now known as Niegosawice, Poland. Until 1945, Blobel s childhood was a perfect 19th century
paradise. He enjoyed the cold, snow rich Silesian s winters with hour long rides on a horse drawn
sleighs to [his] maternal grandparent s farm to have lunch and spend the afternoon [1]. However,
during the end of January 1945, his life took a turn for the worse. The Russian Red Armywas
quickly advancing on the town, so his family had to flee in a small car to a relative s house in
Dresden. A few days later, on February 13, 1945, only days after their stay in Dresden, one of
the most disastrous air bombing attacks of WW II decimated the city. As Blobel describes it,
the red night sky reflected the raging firestorm that destroyed the jewels of this once great city
[1]. This was an unforgettably sad day that Blobel will remember forever. Luckily, it was not
long before the war came to an end, but the months before and after were miserable and hard as
his family had to live separated with no communication and little food. Then, on September 9,
1945, he learned that his oldest sister, Ruth, who was only 19, was killed after a train she was
travelling on was struck by an air raid. The two had a very close, sisterly relationship, so the news
of her death left him and his family deeply sadden. Fortunately, in 1947, things had gotten better as
his family was reunited once again and the horrors of

Essay on no child left behind
No Child Left Behind Act
Introduction
The No Child Left Behind tends to cause neglect to important subjects because they are non tested
subjects, such as Social Studies, Art, health, and Music. With the neglect of these subjects, there is
more focusing that s being done on the tested subjects, like Math and Reading. This may cause a
greater impression that NCLB is a positive thing for our educational system but studies show this is
misleading to the public. States can set their own standard test score levels and classrooms being
able to set their own teaching schedules this can allow room for manipulation of the system. Even
though the states have the ability to set their own standards the schools teachers and students who ...

This is misleading to the public when results of the test come back and show high scores,
allowing them to think that the reason the scores are high is because the NCLB is working. This
is another way someone is not directly changing the grades or the results of the test but yet the
situation is being manipulated to improve the impression given of the NCLB. The negative effect
of these actions are the lack of trust we, the parents, can have in our school systems and the lack of
education some students are receiving simply because they don t test well.
The concerns of the public need to be herd, lack of funding and lack of certified teachers, lead to
lack of interest from students and parents. When Stanik The Public Education Network, did a three
year study across the country, hearing people s concerns and thought about the NCLB, they
discovered that the concerns were high. Even though people thought that the NCLB had a good
idea and had meant well, it left a lot of room for improvement, it left critical realities behind while
trying enforce its ideas. (2007). Schools without money cannot teach on the same level as a school
with money. When states don t meet the standards then its money is denied. It seems like a never
ending circle. The reality is schools without money cannot provide the proper learning equipment
for students to learn. This results in low or

Computer Viruses And Its Effects On A Computer System
A computer virus is a malware program that, when executed copies itself into other data files,
computer programs, or the boot sector of the hard drive with 95% of viruses doing no more than
that. (1)(2). A virus might attach itself to a program such as a word document program. Each
time the word document program runs, the virus runs too and it has the chance to reproduce by
attaching to other programs. (3) Nowadays, it is extremely important to be aware of viruses
because they can cause very dangerous consequences such as identity theft and fraud. When
people generally think about computer viruses, they normally think about an attack on a
computer system, however, they may not be aware of how common computer viruses are. It can
be beneficial to know a few of the different types of viruses, the kind of damage they can cause
and methods to protect yourself from them. In this essay, we will be covering when computer
viruses first made an appearance and contrasting this to how they are like now on social media.
Also, we will be covering how they work and what can be done to prevent the growing risks of
computer viruses on social media. Computer viruses were first widely seen in the late 1980s,
with earlier viruses being pieces of code embedded in a larger, legitimate program such as a
spreadsheet program or a game. When the user downloads and runs this program, the virus loads
itself into memory then looks for any other programs on the disk. If it can find one, it modifies the

What Role Did The Setting Of Monetary Policy Play On...
What role did the setting of monetary policy play in housing market developments?
Monetary policies play can or not play a major role in the housing developments. This all depends
on the supporting evidences provided that aligns with the goals of the policy makers. In this
scenario monetary policy was not the initial reason for the extraordinary strength in the housing
markets. According this case study, a relationship between interest rates and housing activities is
not adequate enough to explain the rise in residential investments or house prices. However some
increase in housing markets can attest to lower interest rates and favourable monetary policies that
followed after the 2011 recession, which was actually a small factor, As... Show more content on

Similar to the United States and as noted by Taylor (2008) and Ahrend and others (2008), In light of
these considerations, the evaluation of policy settings is perhaps best done through a comparison of
projected outcomes for the policy objectives given policy expectations; such a comparison involves
examining whether the forecasts of policymakers, the private sector, or other forecasters were
consistent with a balancing of the price stability objective and the full employment objective (for
example, the unemployment rate in the neighborhood of its estimated natural rate). This guidance
was designed to influence asset prices, economic activity, and inflation in a manner consistent with
the goals of price stability and full employment. As has been emphasized by many researchers, the
guidance of expectations is the primary channel through which policy affects economic outcomes
the overnight interest rate in the interbank market is in itself in consequential for economic activity,
except to the extent that it affects expectations of the future path of this rate, which in turn
influence a broad array of asset prices important to aggregate spending and price setting.
The central role of communication regarding the future path of the policy

Ryan Hickmott Analysis
Ryan Hickmott was completely immersed into the gay community by spending time in the
Gayest place on the planet , San Francisco, and living with a gay man for 30 days. He strongly
believed that homosexuality was a sin and marriage was only between a man and a woman. He
would voice his opinions on multiple occasions. He had a very dogmatic viewpoint and over time,
because of his environment, his strong opinions began to fade tremendously. He experienced things
like going to dinner with gayguys, going to a gay bar, going to a gay church, working in a
predominately gay area, and even speaking with some gay veterans. He was extremely
uncomfortable in almost all of these situations, and at one point considered homosexualityto be an
equal sin compared to murder. But later on he comes to the realization that contradicts his beliefs
when saying he would be completely fine with his new gay roommate being in the same military
unit with him because he is comfortable around him. Lastly, he had the opportunity to go to a
PFLAG meeting, which is support group for homosexuals and had a truly eye opening experience.
He discovered that gay people deserve the same treatment of a straight person. The stereotypes that
were built into his mind were diminishing rapidly. When going home to Michigan he realized how
easy it was to make an opinion about gays with complete ignorance. It was an experience that...

  • 2. Gender and Power Relations in Browning’s Porphria’s Lover... Gender and Power Relations in Browning s Porphria s Lover and My Last Duchess Robert Browning provides a critical view of gender and power relations in his dramatic monologues Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess. The dramatic monologue, as S.S. Curry has written, reveals the struggle in the depths of the soul (11). Browning delves into the minds of characters to show their conceptions of women and ideas of power. He explores the mental processes of the characters, and invites readers to question societal ideas of power and gender. The mental pathologies of the speakers is emphasized, which forces readers to examine the sanity of their own notions of gender dynamics. In the Victorian age, the idea of separate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In men, in general, sexual desire is inherent and spontaneous whereas in the other sex, the desire is dormant, if not non existent, till excited (457). Greg s terminology is extremely power laden. Spontaneous has the connotation of energy and activity, whereas dormant and victim imply inactivity. An important concept is the assumption that men, the coarser sex, act on women, the weaker sex (457). Like prostitutes, the women in Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess also violate traditional gender roles. For that reason, the men take it upon themselves to bring the power relation back to that of convention, where men are bearers of power and have control in relationships. The means by which this power reversion is accomplished, however, are subject to examination. Foucault s theories are helpful in understanding Porphyria s Lover. In the poem, the male character, who is the narrator, perceives himself to elicit a confession from the woman. Inherent in the idea of confession are power dynamics. Confession is ...a ritual that unfolds within a power relationship, for one does not confess without the presence (or virtual presence) of a partner who is not simply the interlocutor but the authority who requires the confession... There are many stories of Daniel Shay s rebellion against the young federal government. Yet one story that receives little attention is the story of Nat Turner s rebellion. This being one of the first rebellions and acts of abolition of slavery you would think that this amazing story would be in every textbook throughout the world. His story is an excellent example of how some slaves fought back and resisted their oppressors. Overall, I was extremely impressed with this work. I think Stephen Oates was truly interested in what he was researching, as this is reflected in the book. He makes important the inhumane treatment and crude conditions that a slave had to endure under their control. His skill as a writer is excellent, and he does a very good job bringing the reader into the story. Oates believes that Nat Turner s rebellion was a critical turning point in American history, especially Southern history. I was especially impressed with his ability to describe what was happening. The detail fills the mind with a well drawn picture of the scenery, smells, attitudes, and needs of the blacks and whites of this part of the South. Lastly I would say that this book is not only enjoyable, but also an important historical work that is helpful in understanding race relations of the past and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Campbell essentially argues in his paper, Beyond the Five Paragraph Essay. Campbell s main idea that he reiterates and stresses over and over again; is that the five paragraph formula doesn t properly allow students to express themselves with their own unique voice through writing. The alternatives to the five paragraph formula are better suited for students as they allow students to use as he stated, their authentic, authoritative voices. Campbell sets the scene by showing how some teachers defended the five paragraph formula when he was doing a presentation on common core standards. Campbell s main reason for writing the ... However, in terms of his essay, he neglected to mention a few things that would ve further enriched his essay. One of the critical aspects he neglected to mention that I would add would be mainly statistics instead of heavily relying on anecdotal evidence. For example, on page 62 as he is discussing the key issues with the formula he stated, it doesn t ensure success on standardized tests or in college. I would ve added a statistics further enriching the say by getting his point across and having a somewhat of a shock factor. A shock factor would ve really made his point stand out and would not just have the essay rely on anecdotal evidence but a mixture of scientific and anecdotal evidence. Moreover, I would ve also included a more sound concluding paragraph. I felt like the last paragraph left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth; I would ve added now that they are able to write better essays their writing has drastically improved and really highlighted the overall difference in quality between using different formulas. Sezgi Saraç December 11, 2017 The Wind Image in the Eolian Harp and Ode to the West Wind Romanticism is a literary and artistic movement which takes its inspiration from nature and creates a new perception of the world. Seeking for the essence of the nature made Romantic poets more related to the essence of the human being and its natural existence in the universe. These new conceptualized ideas created innovation for literature and especially for poetry. (Norton) Romantic Period starts with William Wordsworths publishing of The Lyrical Ballads in 1798, after 30 years of preparation time. Two years later,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Ode to the West Wind, there are three parts in the poem that describe the wind s impacts on the earth, air and the sea. First of all, in the first section, wind represents both preserver and destroyer qualities. It destroys the nature and kills it in the autumn. It carries the dead leaves to the graveyard. However, while doing this, it also creates a new life because in the spring, the seeds which were carried by the wind to the graveyard will regenerate again and they come to the life. In this poem wind has a function like a creator. It can make not only the catastrophic things but also being a life giver. On the other hand, in the Eolian Harp, the duty of the wind does not have vitally importance on the nature. The sound of the harp gives the erotic voice to the listeners. Its function is making joy of people and wind provides its happening. Therefore, it can be said that while in Ode to the West Wind wind has a superior power on the nature, in the Eolian Harp, it creates more individual effect to the nature. Also, in Ode to the West Wind when the West Wind blows, it seems to be singing a funeral song about the dying year and the sky is covered with a dome of clouds looks like a sepulchre. In other respects, harp s voice gives a celestial and paradisiacal sound in the Eolian Harp. It makes more relief and pure voice but the other wind gives us a horrific ... Throughout your high school career, teachers warn students how hard choosing a college will be. Teachers prepare the students for this time in their life, but as the day comes, the decision is not easier. Many factors are taken into consideration when choosing a college . Factors such as cost, programs offered, and living arrangements are considered. Universities are alike in certain ways, such as aspects on campus. Although universities are similar, they may differ in location. One universitymay be closer to a student s hometown, which could be one of the attracting factors of that school to the student. In order to understand and view the important aspects each school has to offer, it is crucial to compare and contrast Northern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to distinguish which school offers more to suit my wants and needs as a student entering college. While deciding on a college, cost can be a big factor in the decision that is being made. Cost is important because the student will be paying off that debt for many years after the college degree has been received. Most students are unable to pay off the large expense that college brings up front, so student loans must be taken out. With student loans, there is interest. If the student attends an expensive college and does not start out in their career making a lot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Primary Causes Of Europe s Age Of Exploration And Discovery Europe s age of exploration and discovery began around 1453 when the Ottoman Turks conquered Constantinople, which resulted in the fall of the Byzantine Empire. This conquest cut off most European access to this area, severely limiting trade with the Middle East, especially China and India. Furthermore, Venice and the Ottoman Empireestablished a monopoly over trade, which irritated Europeand sparked their desire to reconnect with the East and restore direct trade relations with Asia. Europe s desire to discover alternate trade routes in order to participate in Asian silk and spice trades was ultimately a primary cause for European exploration and conquest during the 15th and 16th centuries. Secondarily, Europe s intention to expand and spread Christianity was also a cause of European exploration and conquest in the 15th and 16th centuries. The primary cause of European exploration and conquest during the 15th and 16th centuries was Europe s strong desire to discover new trade passageways to Asia. In 1419, the city of Venice negotiated a dominating trade deal with the Ottoman empire, resulting in the Venetian Ottoman trade monopoly. This led to exploration because the trade deal meant that European nation states such as Spain and Portugal could only buy goods from Venetian merchants (Venice was the intermediator between Europe and the Indian Ocean), and this motivated Europeans to endeavor to circumvent Venice and the Ottoman Empire in hopes of reaching India to buy ... Saint Sernin Of Toulouse And Notre Dame Of Paris Essay Saint Sernin of Toulouse and Notre Dame of Paris When one thinks of St. Sernin and Notre Dame, one tends to think of two beautiful cathedrals, not to churches that portray two totally different styles of architecture. Those two styles are, of course, Romanesque in St. Sernin and the Gothic style of Notre Dame. Some characteristics that these two buildings share include quest for height, basic floor plan, and artistic flair. The period of Romanesque architecture, which lasted roughly from 1050 A.D. to 1150 A.D., concentrated mainly on achieving massive proportions, rounded vaulted bays, the round arch, the wall buttress, cylindrical apse and chapels, and towers. Early Gothic architecture, which began in 1144 with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cathedrals were designed to draw vast numbers of people them, therefore they were built so that one might not only come to worship, but to see the beauty of the structure. Even to this day people are in awe of these building, and come more to stare at their beauty than to worship God. Regardless of how many likeness we are able to find between the Romanesque style of St. Sernin and the Gothic style of Notre Dame, it is the difference that make them so amazing. In my opinion there are three major differences in Early Gothic and Romanesque styles of architecture. These are the differences in buttresses, the use of towers, and the use of windows. From the exterior, one of the first differences one would notice is the use of flying buttresses in Gothic architecture. Where in Romanesque buildings, standard buttresses would have been used, the buttresses on Gothic buildings were detached from the building. This created a more open essence to the church and in my opinion a more spiritual look. As far as the towers go, in Romanesque structure the towers were used as a more central figure, while in Gothic construction, the towers were used more as an entrance structure. Most importantly though, is the different use of light. In Romanesque structures, as is obvious in St. Sernin, it was realized that in a structure as big as a cathedral, much light was ... I had just left the Boston Palestine Film Festival, where the screening of When I Saw You by the Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir had really stood out to me. The movie was from the perspective of a young Palestinian refugee named Tarek living in a camp in Jordan. Tarek goes on a journey to return to his home in Palestine. After watching the film, I had an unshakeable feeling that my real home was in Palestine and felt a strong urge to return to the land of my ancestors. I developed a deeper connection to my Palestinian heritage after the film festival. These feelings were confusing to me at first. • 10. Analysis Of We Real Cool We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks is a lyrical poem that tells a story of teenage rebellion. Although the poem is relatively short, it packs an extremely powerful message about youth. Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American consciousness. During the time in which the poem was written, many teens, especially young African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. At first glance, it appears this poem is a mere description of misunderstood young adults who are enjoying their youth. However, with further analysis, it is made clear that this poem talks about much more than that. While it is obvious that this poem is about rebellious youths, it is also about self identity and the dangers of herd mentality. Herd mentality describes how people follow and adapt the behaviors of certain groups. Herd mentality is in no way new; moreover, most people are subject to its effects. However, herd mentality becomes dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate an individual s way of thinking. When an individual is desperate to find a place to belong, they will most likely follow the crowd even if they know that they are participating in something immoral; this can be seen in We Real Cool. In the opening lines of the poem, the reader is introduced to the subjects The Pool Players. Seven at the Golden Shovel (line 1 2), they are the we in the poem. It becomes apparent to the reader that the speaker is one of the seven pool players mentioned. The speakers tone in the poem is very prideful and defiant, but at the same time, it is filled with uncertainty. This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that have a steady meter that gives the poem a jazz like quality to the poem which further emphasizes the speaker s nonchalant attitude and their disdain for the establishment. The speaker contempt for the system is shown in the line We real cool. We Left school. (line3 4) The speaker feels misunderstood by society and yearns to find a place for themselves in the world. The danger in this is that the speaker of a poem gives up on conventional means of education in search for a place where they can belong, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You may let go of the bowling ball at a constant speed, but its velocity is not constant because of the change in direction every instant. The ball s state of motion is changing. It s accelerating! Now you can see why it is important to know the difference between speed and velocity, and why acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity, rather than speed. Acceleration is like velocity, its directional. If you were to change your arms speed or direction, or even both, you change velocity and you accelerate. Just remember acceleration = change of velocity/time interval. The one thing that s cool about pool is that wooden alley that s always shiny. The alley is made out of fine wood and is usually shined up. The alley seems to be the friction that slows a ball down. Even when a single force is applied to an object, it is usually not the only force affecting the motion. This is because of friction. Friction is a force that always acts in a direction to oppose motion. When you let go of the ball one way, the air resistance is coming the opposite direction. Let go of the bowling ball and you can see it in motion. If an object moves, the by virtue of that motion it is capable of doing work. It has energy in motion, or kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of an object depends on the mass of the object as well as its speed. KE = ВЅmvВІ. The novel provides an insight to the mind and memory comprehension of different mental capacities; however, how and why is a social group represented in a particular way? The Sound and the Fury is divided into four specific sections that are devoted to the minds of four different characters, specifically Benjamin, Quentin, Jason, and the unknown chapter. The first chapter is Benjamin s chapter, this chapter is spent mainly shifting from the presenttimeand the past. Faulkner utilized Benjamin s different mindset to provide the reader with an accurate thought pattern. Some of the others are performing traditionally and were subsidised by the government for they are labelled as a part of national heritage that attracts the foreign tourists attention, such is the Water Puppet Theatre Company in Hanoi, Vietnam. Robin Ruizendaal (2009) stated that there is a steady decline in the interest of traditional puppetry since the arrival of home television. And a lot of puppet theatre companies disappeared as their opportunities decreased. As a result, some puppet companies tried to blend their traditional art with a touch of modernity in terms of music and lighting. However, Ruizendaal also stated that he expects more companies to disappear in the upcoming years, and the survivors being the well known and subsidized companies, along with the countryside troupes who performed on a smaller scale for a ... • 21. David Hume s Definition Of Free Will What is free will? The general concept of free will is the ability to make choices of your own without anyone or anything impeding them which, consequently, makes you morally responsible. Free will, however, is non existent. This is explained with the theory of determinism and solidified via hard determinism. Our actions and behavior can be traced to our desires and beliefs which are directly caused by our genetics and environment. There are many stances and arguments against this idea but ultimately do not dissuade against it. There are many beliefs as to what free will is, and many have tried to establish its meaning. David Hume believes it is the ability to act on your beliefs and desires and as your beliefs and desires change, so does your behavior. The problem with Hume s definition is that those with compulsory disorders and addictions have free will according to that definition. Harry Frankfurt believes that if first and second order desires are in agreement then you have free will. The problem with Frankfurt s definition is that the addicts that do not have a conflicting order of desires have free will according to the definition and those who are weak willed do not have free will. The general explanation of free will discussed in the introduction is what will be used, seeing that the ones explained have their obvious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Karl Marx And Freidrich Engels In August of 1844, 26 year old Karl Marx and 23 year old Freidrich Engels met in Paris for an aperitif at the CafГ© de la Regence an old meeting place of Voltaire and Diderot. Their ensuing discourse lasted ten intense days and resulted in a lifelong friendship. This transformative relationship is evident in the publishing of The Communist Manifesto (1848) during a period of widespread European revolution. Although Marx and Engels agreed that revolution is justified to create a Communist society, their difference of opinion on how that revolution should occur is compelling. During the Holocaust, the prisoners in concentration camps would risk their lives for an extra crust of bread or ration of soup. The captives of the Holocaust had to acclimate to their surroundings and do anything they could for food. The need for energy can cause a human to make ignorant decisions, thus allowing for a loss of their personal values. Scientifically, you should not make long term decisions while hungry. Students at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden studied if it is smart to make a decision when you are ravenous. Women Are The Ones Who Handle Household Chores Always women are the ones who handle the household chores Household chores like doing the laundry, cleaning the utensils, taking care of children and making food is always done by women. If both, husband and wife are working, it is always the woman doing the domestic work. But this is not always true. This is in fact a gender stereotype which has existed since many years. Maybe not all men or fathers do household chores, but many do. According to Catherine Rampell, a writer for The New York Times newspaper, on an average day, 66.6% men and 85% women report doing some sort of household activity. Almost everybody believe in this stereotype. Even if a man is sharing household work with his spouse or any other female in the house, his image is presented as if he does nothing. Even if he is contributing little, he is at least doing something, and something is definitely better than nothing. No man s conscious would allow him to see his wife or any female in the house do all the work in the house alone. Even if a man is going out for groceries, it is not considered a household work by the female, just because he did not contribute to do the work in the house. Women tend to see the results instead of the work done to get those particular results. Octavian, the grandnephew of Julius Caesar, emerged victorious after a civil war in Rome caused by the assassination of Caesar in 31 BCE. It is now the way the world communicates with each other, because of computers it is a much smaller world in which we live. Computers have been around for such a short period of time, yet they seem to be advancing faster than anything else; this is because there is an infinite number of ways computers can be implemented to help individuals. Thirty years after the first computerwas developed, computers had already been altered to read and save information on magnetic tapes that ran through the computer. The picture below was taken at East Carolina University (ECU) in the mid 1970 s of a man changing tapes in a tape computer (Computer Data Tapes). 40 years after this picture was taken, this form of computers is almost unrecognizable by society today, due to dramatic advancements in computer technology. When the first programmable mainframe computer was built in 1946, the technology was utilized to help people with mathematical calculations, problem solving, and could even run small simple simulations while only taking up 1,000 square feet (Bestofmedia). Prior to the 1950 s, vacuum tubes had been used in all computers to indicate on or off for processing. • 42. Taking a Look at GГјnter Blobel GГјnter Blobel was born on May 21, 1936 in a small Silesian village in Waltersdorf, Germany, now known as Niegosawice, Poland. Until 1945, Blobel s childhood was a perfect 19th century paradise. He enjoyed the cold, snow rich Silesian s winters with hour long rides on a horse drawn sleighs to [his] maternal grandparent s farm to have lunch and spend the afternoon [1]. However, during the end of January 1945, his life took a turn for the worse. The Russian Red Armywas quickly advancing on the town, so his family had to flee in a small car to a relative s house in Dresden. A few days later, on February 13, 1945, only days after their stay in Dresden, one of the most disastrous air bombing attacks of WW II decimated the city. As Blobel describes it, the red night sky reflected the raging firestorm that destroyed the jewels of this once great city [1]. This was an unforgettably sad day that Blobel will remember forever. Luckily, it was not long before the war came to an end, but the months before and after were miserable and hard as his family had to live separated with no communication and little food. Then, on September 9, 1945, he learned that his oldest sister, Ruth, who was only 19, was killed after a train she was travelling on was struck by an air raid. The two had a very close, sisterly relationship, so the news of her death left him and his family deeply sadden. Fortunately, in 1947, things had gotten better as his family was reunited once again and the horrors of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on no child left behind No Child Left Behind Act Introduction The No Child Left Behind tends to cause neglect to important subjects because they are non tested subjects, such as Social Studies, Art, health, and Music. With the neglect of these subjects, there is more focusing that s being done on the tested subjects, like Math and Reading. This may cause a greater impression that NCLB is a positive thing for our educational system but studies show this is misleading to the public. States can set their own standard test score levels and classrooms being able to set their own teaching schedules this can allow room for manipulation of the system. Even though the states have the ability to set their own standards the schools teachers and students who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is misleading to the public when results of the test come back and show high scores, allowing them to think that the reason the scores are high is because the NCLB is working. This is another way someone is not directly changing the grades or the results of the test but yet the situation is being manipulated to improve the impression given of the NCLB. The negative effect of these actions are the lack of trust we, the parents, can have in our school systems and the lack of education some students are receiving simply because they don t test well. The concerns of the public need to be herd, lack of funding and lack of certified teachers, lead to lack of interest from students and parents. When Stanik The Public Education Network, did a three year study across the country, hearing people s concerns and thought about the NCLB, they discovered that the concerns were high. Even though people thought that the NCLB had a good idea and had meant well, it left a lot of room for improvement, it left critical realities behind while trying enforce its ideas. (2007). Schools without money cannot teach on the same level as a school with money. When states don t meet the standards then its money is denied. It seems like a never ending circle. The reality is schools without money cannot provide the proper learning equipment for students to learn. This results in low or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Monetary policies play can or not play a major role in the housing developments. This all depends on the supporting evidences provided that aligns with the goals of the policy makers. In this scenario monetary policy was not the initial reason for the extraordinary strength in the housing markets. According this case study, a relationship between interest rates and housing activities is not adequate enough to explain the rise in residential investments or house prices. Similar to the United States and as noted by Taylor (2008) and Ahrend and others (2008), In light of these considerations, the evaluation of policy settings is perhaps best done through a comparison of projected outcomes for the policy objectives given policy expectations; such a comparison involves examining whether the forecasts of policymakers, the private sector, or other forecasters were consistent with a balancing of the price stability objective and the full employment objective (for example, the unemployment rate in the neighborhood of its estimated natural rate). This guidance was designed to influence asset prices, economic activity, and inflation in a manner consistent with the goals of price stability and full employment. As has been emphasized by many researchers, the guidance of expectations is the primary channel through which policy affects economic outcomes the overnight interest rate in the interbank market is in itself in consequential for economic activity, except to the extent that it affects expectations of the future path of this rate, which in turn influence a broad array of asset prices important to aggregate spending and price setting. • 48. Ryan Hickmott Analysis Ryan Hickmott was completely immersed into the gay community by spending time in the Gayest place on the planet , San Francisco, and living with a gay man for 30 days. He strongly believed that homosexuality was a sin and marriage was only between a man and a woman. He would voice his opinions on multiple occasions. He had a very dogmatic viewpoint and over time, because of his environment, his strong opinions began to fade tremendously. He experienced things like going to dinner with gayguys, going to a gay bar, going to a gay church, working in a predominately gay area, and even speaking with some gay veterans. He was extremely uncomfortable in almost all of these situations, and at one point considered homosexualityto be an equal sin compared to murder. But later on he comes to the realization that contradicts his beliefs when saying he would be completely fine with his new gay roommate being in the same military unit with him because he is comfortable around him. Lastly, he had the opportunity to go to a PFLAG meeting, which is support group for homosexuals and had a truly eye opening experience. He discovered that gay people deserve the same treatment of a straight person. The stereotypes that were built into his mind were diminishing rapidly.
