The Bonelli Eagle, or Hieraaetus fasciatus, is an endangered raptor found across Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It has a length of 65-72 cm and wingspan of 150-180 cm. Its diet consists mainly of rabbits and partridges, but it also preys on other small birds and lizards. The Bonelli Eagle inhabits open and semi-open areas in Mediterranean regions. Though adults are sedentary, juveniles may migrate to avoid competition for food with territorial adults. Several protected natural areas in Portugal help support the rare and declining populations of this eagle.
