Gene fuelled transporter causes breast cancer cells to self-destruct

Publicada en Nanomedicine Research - News, 02/28/2011.

Scientists at Queen's University Belfast have shown that they can deliver a gene directly into breast cancer cells
causing them to self-destruct, using an innovative, miniscule gene transport system, according to research published
February 28 in the International Journal of Pharmaceutics.

Nanoparticles that mimic viruses can stimulate long lasting
           immunity
           Publicada el 02/28/2011.

Vaccine scientists say their "Holy Grail" is to stimulate immunity that lasts for a lifetime. Live viral vaccines such as
the smallpox or yellow fever vaccines provide immune protection that lasts several decades, but despite their
success, scientists have remained in the dark as to how they induce such long lasting immunity.

Nanometre-scale gold particles are currently intensively investigated for possible applications in catalysis, sensing,
photonics, biolabelling, drug carriers and molecular electronics. The particles are prepared in a solution from gold
salts and their reactive gold cores can be stabilised with various organic ligands.

  • 7. Nanomedicina Modified RNA creates stable therapeutic nanoparticles Publicada el 02/24/2011. But by replacing a chemical group in the macromolecule, Dr. Guo says he and fellow researchers have found a way to bypass RNase and create stable three-dimensional configurations of RNA, greatly expanding the possibilities for RNA in nanotechnology. ver más... Enabling nanoparticles to penetrate deeply in tumors Publicada el 02/24/2011. Now, a large team of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, have developed a solution to this problem: multilayered, or multistage, nanoparticles that partially dissolve once they accumulate around tumors, leaving behind a payload of nanoparticles a mere one-tenth the size of the original delivery vehicle. ver más... MIT engineers design new nanoparticle that could lead to vaccines Publicada el 02/24/2011. The new particles, consist of concentric fatty spheres that can carry synthetic versions of proteins normally produced by viruses. These synthetic particles elicit a strong immune response comparable to that produced by live virus vaccines but should be much safer. ver más... Simpler way of making proteins could lead to new nanomedicine agents Publicada el 02/23/2011. Researchers have developed a simple method of making short protein chains with spiral structures that can also dissolve in water, two desirable traits not often found together. Such structures could have applications as building blocks for self-assembling nanostructures and as agents for drug and gene delivery. ver más... Febrero 2011 Página 4
