 Body Cosmetics :
 Body cosmetics, also known as make up, are substances or
products used to enhance or alter the appearance or fragrance
of the body. In U.S. the food and Drug Administration (FDA)
which regulates cosmetics defines cosmetics as “intended to be
applied to the human body for cleansing, beautifying,
promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance without
affecting the body’s structure or functions” .
Antiperspirant :
 Antiperspirant are personal hygiene products designed to
control sweating and body odour safely and effectively . They
are readily available on the market as spray (aerosol) ,sticks
,creams or roll-ons.
 Examples
i. Odaban
ii. Anhydrol forte
iii. Driclor
iv. Perspirex
v. Magicool

 Advantages and Disadvantages of Antiperspirants :
 Advantages :
Antiperspirant have a certain fragrance which has a
capability to neutralize the unpleasant odour.
Antiperspirants block the pores with the help of
chemical substances & it controls the sweating.
 Disadvantages :
 Allergic reaction : Like itching & red skin rashes
 Lumps : some antiperspirants blocks the pores of the
skin and cause bacterial infections .for example
:Armpits lumps.
 Other S/E : clothes stain.
Deodorants :
 Deodorants is a substance which is used to eliminate bad
odour which is generally caused by sweating. Deodorants
are mostly applied locally on surface of the body.
Deodorants are prepared by different chemical compounds
like hydrogen peroxide ,chlorine & glycols. It also contain
antiseptics which destroyed bacteria.
Use:
 used to control body odour.
Types:
• Solid
• Crystal
• Roll on
• Paste

 Advantages and Disadvantages of Deodorants :
 Advantages:
 One of the most advantages of deodorants is that it has the capability to manage
the odour by neutralizing it.
 Deodorants has the ability to protect our body from excessive sweat & eliminates
the bacteria that causes bad odor.
 Disadvantages:
 Stains : A deodorant takes about a second to absorb on your skin. When the
deodorant is sprayed on the clothes then it has the tendency to bleed on clothes &
stain them.
 Decrease Perspiration: Deodorants containing aluminum blocks sweat ducts
(stimulates sweat) & this builds up toxins in our armpits. Aluminum containing
substances also build up estrogen which may cause to breast cancer.
 Discomfort : use of strong deodorants can cause irritation in skin in many ways
like :- Itching in skin , Rashes to develop in skin , Make skin dry & flaky.

Skin Lighteners :
 It is the practice of using substances ,mixtures or physical
treatment to lighten skin color.
 Uses :
 Specific zones or abnormally high pigmentation such as
lentigo spots , moles & birthmarks may be de-pigmented to
match to the surrounding skin. In cases of vertigo,
unaffected skin may be lightened to achieve a more
uniform appearance .
Advantages and Disadvantages of Skin lighteners :
 Advantages :
 skin lighteners also have anti-ageing properties . This keeps skin young
and beautiful.
 This lightens the skin, It also removes various skin marks caused by
uneven melanin distribution.
 Disadvantages :
 Skin lightning creams are particularly risky , because they can contain
ingredients especially potent steroids
 Skin Lightening cream cause thinning of the skin.
 People with acne scars may turn to skin lightening creams to lighten
the scars . However , because many skin whitening creams contain
steroids , the creams can actually cause blocked pores & lead to the
development of new acne.
Skin Bleaches :
 Skin Bleaching is a cosmetics treatment to reduce the
prominence of skin discolorations & even out the color of
the skin.
 Uses :
It is used to lighten the dark patches of skin caused by
pregnancy ,birth control pills, hormones medicines or
injury to the skin.
 Advantages of Skin Bleaching :
 Advantages :
 It makes the face white, clean & attractive.
 It can also be applied to the other parts of the body as well like on hands &
feet to vanish the black lines caused by the dryness.
 Disadvantages :
 Hydroquinore, which is the primary agent in the bleaching cream is
dangerous for the human skin & can cause skin cancer.
 Mercury, is the another agent used in the bleaching cream which can also
cause skin cancer if the skin is exposed to the sunlight soon after using the
bleaching cream.
 Use of bleach cream excessively can make skin thin which can cause
stretch marks .
Sunscreen :
 Sunscreen is a lotion, spray, gel or other topical product that
absorbs or reflects some of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation
and thus helps protect against sunburn. Sunscreen helps to
protect lightened skin because light skin is more susceptible to
sun damage than darker skin.

Advantages and disadvantages of Sunscreen :
 Advantages :
 Help to prevent skin cancer.
 Its application can slow or temporarily prevent the development of
wrinkles or sagging skin.
 Helps to make muscle smoother.
 Disadvantages :
 Potential vitamin D deficiency can arise from prolonged use of sunscreen
 Presence of Tingnium oxide (TiO2) and zinc oxide(ZnO2) may shows
various adverse effects on skin.
 Can cause the skin to become more sensitive.
 Uses:
 Used to prevent skin from harmful effect of sun.
 They helps to prevent sunburn and premature aging (eg. Wrinkles or
leathery skin).
 Helps to decrease the risk cancer and also of sunburn.
Anti-Burn :
The invention that relates to medicine & to a medicinal products, which is
primarily meant for the treatment of skin burns.
 Use :
 Helps to prevent & treat wound infections in patients with serious burns.
