This document discusses optimal blood glucose control after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. It reviews different recommended blood glucose ranges and the risks of hyperglycemia in this population. Hyperglycemia is associated with worse outcomes after CABG like increased complications. Intensive insulin therapy aims to keep blood glucose between 80-110 mg/dL but trials show this target may increase risks of hypoglycemia without clear benefits. Current guidelines recommend keeping blood glucose under 180 mg/dL for CABG patients using insulin infusions. Precise blood glucose targets need more research to determine for different patient types.
