dialogue foracquisitionandIwas verycomfortable withthatconversation. IwaspleasedwithwhatI
had accomplishedbutwasreadytomake it happen.”

“Edelmanisa big companyanddespite thattheyare still a familyownedoperationand thatresonated
withme because KaryoCommunicationswasfamilyowned.”
In the beginningwhenyouwere startingyourowncompanywhatwere some of the attributesyoufeel
leadto yoursuccess?
“Many people getintoa businessbecausetheythinktheycanmake alot of moneyandthat’s their
motivation. Moneyisnota motivatorto me.Moneyisa by-productof hardwork. I won’tcrossthe
streetfora deal,butI will foranopportunity. Ithinkinbusinessyouhave tobe willingtotake risks,but
at the same time youcan’tbe reckless. Youalsohave to have a strongbelief inyourself andacceptthat
failure isnotan option.”
Why didyougo intobusinessforyourself?
“I’m an entrepreneurbynature. ThatsaidI neversetout to grow my companyintosomethingbig,I
didn’thave a particulargoal inmind. To me life isall aboutcreatingopportunitiesandseeingwhat
happenswhenyouseize those opportunities.”
Was it toughbuildingabusinessandbeingamother?
“Yes of course! The keyto successon bothfieldsthoughishavingahusbandwhoiswillingtodotheir
share on the home front. Howeverdespite findingsuccessinthe businessworld,beingamotheristhe
bestthingI’ve everdone.”
That naturallyleadstoquestions aboutwomeninthe workplace whowanttohave a family. Which
directionwouldyoulike tosee the workingworldgo?
“I grewup duringthe feministmovementof the 60’s. We needto keeppushingforthat. We can’t lose
sightof womeninthe workplace or we standto lose a lotof talent. Womenneedtofindandwork
for companiesthatpush forthe advancementof womeninthe workplace and are sympathetictothe
needsof womenwhenkidscome along. We needtopushcompaniestoadoptmore kidfriendlypolicies
like longerworkdaysbutwork4 insteadof 5 days a week;workingremotelyorjobshare programs.”
