NAME OF THE TEACHER: Neethu lal.m STD :VIII
NAME OF THE SCHOOL : STR :
SUBJECT : chemistry DURATION :45 min
UNIT : Changes DATE :
TOPIC : Reactants,products STAGE :13+
CURRICULAR STATEMENT :
Pupils develop factual knowledge, conceptual knowledge, and procedual
knowledge of the concept of REACTANTS AND PRODUCT and its role in our life
through observation, discussion ,experimentation and evaluation through
questioning, participating in practical work and group discussion.
CONTENT ANALYSIS
TERMS
1.Reactants
2.products
FACTS
1.In candle burning,wax and oxygen are products,carbondioxide &
water vapour are reactants
2.In cooking gas, methane & oxygen are reactants ,carbondioxide &
water are products
3.In haber process, nitrogen and hydrogen are reactants, ammoni is
product
4.hydrogen + oxygen giving water,where hydrogen & oxygen are
reactant & water is product
C0NCEPTS
MINOR CONCEPT
1.In chemical reaction, the atoms and molecules that interact with each
other are reactant.
2.In chemical reaction ,the atoms and molecule produced by reaction
are products
MAJOR CONCEPT
1.The substance that take part in rchemical reaction are reactants
2.The substance formed as aresult of the reaction are products
LEARNING OUTCOME
1.It enables the pupil to develop
1.factual knowledge on reactants and products by
a) recalling the chemical reaction
b)when reactants react , products form
c)recogonize the reactant and product in each equation
2. conceptual knowledge on reactants and products by
a)explaining what is reactant and product
b) illustrating different equatiionsasexamples
c) use the concept in unfamiliar situation
3. procedural knowledge on reactants and products by
a) showing activities by burning magnesium ribbon
b) raising questions against why ,when reaction take place, products
forming
4. metacognitive knowledge on reactants and products by
a)focusing the idea that reactants react to give products
b) generating suggestion that products form in chemical reaction
5.different process skill by observing ,making operational definition
,inferring ,communicating etc
6. attitude towards science
PREREQUISITE
Students are aware about different chemical reaction
TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES
Discussion,demonstration,grouping,candle,match box,magnesium
ribbon,potassium permanganate
TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES
PUPIL RESPONSE
INTRODUCTION
You all know very well what is physical and chemical
change..have you seen that when lime juice which is acidic in
nature comes in contact with the marble slab in your kitchen ,it
reacts and colour change occur in marble..ie some reactions
take place there ..today we are going to discuss on reactants
and products….
Orientation
Teacher divide students into groups
PRESENTATION
ACTIVITY 1
Take a magnesium ribbon and heat it.what do you observe.write
your observation in science diary
DISCUSSION CLUE
1.Is there any change occur?
2.what change?
3.when magnesium ribbon is burned, which gas helps in
burning?
4.so which all combines here?
5.which are reactants?
6.when magnesium and oxygen reacts, what are formed?
7.So what are products?
ACTIVITY 2
Take a test tube containing pottasiun permanganate and show a
burning match stick..Any change occur? Then heat it and show a
burning match stick .obsreve it ans write your observation in
science diary
DISCUSSION CLUE
1. Without heating,when shown burning matchstick,any change
occur?
2.when test tube heated, any change occur when burning match
stick shown?
3.what change?
4.what may be the reason?
5.so what are the reactants react?
6.so what are the products here, when reactants react?
7.from where oxygen formed?
CONCEPT TO BE CONSOLIDATED
1. The substance that take part in chemical reaction are
reactants.
2.The substance formed as a result of reaction are products
REVIEW
1. What are chemical reaction?
2. what are reactants?
3.What are products?
4. give eg for one reaction and what are reactants and products
there?
5.give the chemical equation when magnesium burns?
FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY
From your daily life, write some reaction taking place and what
are reactants and products there??

  • 3. b)when reactants react , products form c)recogonize the reactant and product in each equation 2. conceptual knowledge on reactants and products by a)explaining what is reactant and product b) illustrating different equatiionsasexamples c) use the concept in unfamiliar situation 3. procedural knowledge on reactants and products by a) showing activities by burning magnesium ribbon b) raising questions against why ,when reaction take place, products forming 4. metacognitive knowledge on reactants and products by a)focusing the idea that reactants react to give products b) generating suggestion that products form in chemical reaction 5.different process skill by observing ,making operational definition ,inferring ,communicating etc 6. attitude towards science PREREQUISITE Students are aware about different chemical reaction TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES Discussion, demonstration, grouping, candle, match box, magnesium ribbon, potassium permanganate
  • 4. TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES PUPIL RESPONSE INTRODUCTION You all know very well what is physical and chemical change..have you seen that when lime juice which is acidic in nature comes in contact with the marble slab in your kitchen ,it reacts and colour change occur in marble..ie some reactions take place there ..today we are going to discuss on reactants and products…. Orientation Teacher divide students into groups
  • 5. PRESENTATION ACTIVITY 1 Take a magnesium ribbon and heat it.what do you observe.write your observation in science diary
  • 6. DISCUSSION CLUE 1.Is there any change occur? 2.what change? 3.when magnesium ribbon is burned, which gas helps in burning? 4.so which all combines here? 5.which are reactants? 6.when magnesium and oxygen reacts, what are formed? 7.So what are products?
  • 7. ACTIVITY 2 Take a test tube containing pottasiun permanganate and show a burning match stick..Any change occur? Then heat it and show a burning match stick .obsreve it ans write your observation in science diary DISCUSSION CLUE 1. Without heating, when shown burning matchstick, any change occur? 2.when test tube heated, any change occur when burning match stick shown? 3.what change? 4.what may be the reason? 5.so what are the reactants react? 6.so what are the products here, when reactants react? 7.from where oxygen formed?
  • 8. CONCEPT TO BE CONSOLIDATED 1. The substance that take part in chemical reaction are reactants. 2.The substance formed as a result of reaction are products REVIEW 1. What are chemical reaction? 2. what are reactants? 3.What are products? 4. give eg for one reaction and what are reactants and products there? 5.give the chemical equation when magnesium burns? FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY From your daily life, write some reaction taking place and what are reactants and products there??
